In 2027 the Yankees will be paying Cole + Judge + Stanton $101 million combined.

They will be 35, 36, and 37

Stanton just had a 1 WAR season.

Seems odd he picked NY over SF IMO, but at least this will handcuff the Yankees somewhat. This deal probably starts looking bad year 6ish

If the money was close, then he's much better off on the Yankees. He's going to be a lifetime Yankee now, and if he cares about endorsements and things like that then the Yankees are the brand to be associated with. Obviously if the Giants offer blew everyone out the water, then that's different, but I'm guessing the offers were close enough to where leaving NY didn't make sense for him.

Cashman is going to have to start developing cheap young talent now because Judge/Stanton/Cole is a lot of money for 3 players locked up for a long time.

Yankees are making a clear statement that they expect Judge to be the successor to Jeter as the next all time Yankee.

Two red flags are his late career start and his unprecedented body type. I would normally never expect a player like Judge to be around for his age 39 season.

On the other side, Judge may be helped by eventual roboumps more than any player in baseball.

He's a San Fran boy, so there's a lot to be said about playing for the team you grew up watching. Obviously he made the other choice, but I could have seen it going either way. When you make that much money, you're just collecting money, you couldn't possibly ever spend it all.

I bet there will be lots of IL time between those 3 players.

Why? Yankee legend, great park to hit in and SF isn't a good team (nor do they look like they will be anytime soon)

I find this really interesting. It actually says the ball is a "more batter friendly weight" for Yankee games. and the playoffs. Why Yankee games, trying to help Judge? Do they want Yankees to have an edge? Not sure, but I remember them switching balls out when Judge came to bat, they said that was for authenticity. The funny thing is, When they started finding these balls at Yankees games, thats when they were struggling the most. MLB fans should be all over this.

The extremely cynical answer is they wanted to help Judge set a big record. And wanted to juice the ball for the playoffs and other events.

The normal and probably more truthful answer is that it was unintentional and the "special" balls just came from a different batch, that has slightly different characteristics. So this Goldilocks ball ended up being the one they used for ever stamped baseball. So it was incidental and not on purpose. MLB may not have even known they had two slightly different baseballs out there.

This is giving the MLB a lot of benefit of the doubt that I'm not altogether sure they've earned. Yankees are a cash cow for the MLB, particularly when they're doing well, it would not surprise me at all that they try to give the team an edge.

I was actually wondering last season if there was a reason why Yankees players were still putting up big numbers compared to other teams in the league and I suspected the balls used for their games was different. I'm not at all surprised that there's some shady business going on. if they can change the call for different games, what's to stop them from using different balls within the game depending on which team is batting. Tatis-Soto-Machado-Judge would have been a god tier lineup

Yeah and Turner turned them down as well, but they probably used Turners money for the Judge offer but Turner-Tatis-Soto-Machado-Judge

Jansen is the slowest RP in baseball and now has to speed up his tempo because of the pitch clock.

Most arms won't be impacted much by the pitch clock but I think Jansen could be the rare exception.

He might decline horribly, immediately. He's also super old.

Yeah, that contract could get ugly. And soon.

If the Cardinals get Contreras, then I have no idea where the Jays are trading a catcher. Murphy is also out there so Jansen's market is shrinking. Kirk and Moreno will have a wider market but also are less likely to be moved.

Not sure why he gave the Yankees a sweetheart deal considering the fans booed him in the playoffs. And Cashman trashed him for not accepting an extension in Spring.

Would have loved to see him leave that organization in complete shambles.

Twins, Guardians, Dbacks (though Murphy might be their target)

Not to mention that the guy also has a recurring heart issue. Being forced to work more quickly sounds like it could have a very dramatic effect on his effectiveness and maybe even overall health.
