That’s what it comes down to. Is there bonus points or something for winning with a low payroll? Other than sabr guys fawning over you of course. We don’t know all that goes into to the P&L. They could be just fine. Also, maybe they’re not as eager to make a profit as the Jays. Again, is that a bad thing?

 

That said, I didn’t like their signings last year from the jump. You can only spend so much and so you don’t want to waste anything

A 1-2-3 of DeGrom-Perez-Gray is okay. Perez will regress though. On the hitting side, Lowe probably won’t put up the same numbers, Seager should be better, and Semien might produce around the same he did this year.

 

This signing gets them to what, maybe 74-75 wins if DeGrom stays healthy? Most of the lineup and pitching staff still kinda sucks. It’s been an odd rebuild where they’ve gotten very little production from their prospects and are just trying to build through free agency now.

DeGrom definitely went to the Rangers for the desired place to live and security of that mega contract. Perhaps Mets would have given him similar money. But you definitely didn’t sign with the Texas Rangers to win.

 

Even with their big splashes they don’t seem like a real threat in their division let alone the rest of the American League.

deGrom signed a below market extension with the Mets that had a s*** load of deferred money. I think he regretted that almost instantly and wanted to make up for it here.

Perez and Gray just aren’t good enough to be the #3 and #2 starters. The Rangers have a lot of work to do still. Need two more bats, some RP upgrades, better SP depth, and then pray for health. Maybe they can get in there

Last year was a trip, but you have to follow up that path now, or what was the point, falling back on Danger's point, it makes sense. I don't think it's as bad as you guys think. He throws triple digits with a 93/94 mph wipeout painted slider, deep into games, lol. He's f***ing filthy.

DeGrom is amazing but that contract is asinine. The guy will be lucky to crack 500 innings over the 5 years of the deal, there's just so much likely dead money in this deal. The Rangers said they were going to spend "stupid money" last offseason, and that's just continued.
