You guys are forgetting about Kyle Tucker

It’s hilarious how Dusty hit his third (second?) best hitter like 6th all year and in the playoffs

Yeah. Tucker is a better hitter than Pena.

I don't see them keeping Pena is the two spot with Abreu there but who knows

No matter what it's an excellent lineup

Its Dusty I can definitely see it lol

I honestly did, damn. Yeah Dusty’s lineups are awful

If I'm betting on anyone to have a dead cat bounce, it's him.

Astros clearly aren't

Someone else will take a gamble on him I'm sure

Is it any funnier than us hitting Gurriel 8th most of the year? Lol

Wow, nice spot for him. Lets see the $$$. Any guesses??

I’m thinking like 3/60 or something

Astros To Sign José Abreu To Three-Year Contract

By Darragh McDonald | November 28, 2022 at 2:15pm CDT

The Astros are closing in on a deal with free agent first baseman José Abreu. It will be a three-year deal for $19.5MM per season, bringing the total to $58.5MM. The deal is pending a physical.

The Sox won't get anything from Andrew Vaughn at 1B. At least not enough to warrant letting a franchise icon go.

That's pretty sad if true...but $19.5M over 3 years for a 36 year old first baseman coming off a .446 SLG% season has some (a lot?) of risk to it. Then again - lots of red on his Baseball Savant page, so maybe he is David Ortiz.

Yes. Gurriel is not better than Springer/Vlad/Kirk/Bo/Teo. I know Bo struggled like crazy early on but he pulled it together

Steamer projects 122 wRC+ and 23 HR, at peak he'll be above those numbers. He'll be fine

I agree BTS. I think Jim should trade him to me in LOD at a discount reflecting the above. :)

Nah, I'm in a good spot in the LOD. All the problems with the team are good ones to have. Like having EDLC expected to debut, while already having 4 quite competent MLB SS on the roster. Do you need a SS?

The letting go part - this is like Edwin leaving Toronto but the player is 2 years older. I just don't see how it would have made any sense to retain him. As good as Abreu has been for them he probably just has a couple more league average years and then is more or less done. And they've also got Eloy who is LF/DH, Vaughn who is a DH/1B, Grandal who probably needs some DH/1B time... some other fringe roster guys without defensive utility like Gavin Sheets.

On Vaughn - could see a 2 WAR true talent come through if he doesn't have to play LF anymore. I don't think he'll ever be the big offensive player people thought but he was a f***ing -20 LF last year lol.

Berrios sneaks in there as the only Blue Jay (not even Gausman's insane splitter? Okay Statcast!)...

I really do think Berrios is fixable

He’s such an enigma. Showed flashes of his former self but also flashes of AAAA fodder pitcher. The stuff is still there. Just need him to be a #3 workhorse type guy

Basically that’s the hope. The upside play isn’t looking good. But hopefully he gets back to the 4.00 ERA/FIP SP that gives you value making all his starts.

He’s not scaring anyone getting the ball in the playoffs though. Hopefully RT or something pushes him to #4 in the rotation

I wholeheartedly agree, we're talking about a very consistent starter throughout his career; he should be a very solid #3 based on career numbers, and he's still only 28. 2021 was a really strange outlier for him, by FAR his worst numbers since his rookie season.

FFS - he's been a 3.5 - 4 WAR pitcher for 3 of the last 4 seasons. He's entering his age 29 season and collectively, we're in an era where it's far more easy to fix a pitcher than ever before. There's so many obvious reasons to be optimistic about him returning as a very good #2/#3 pitcher who you'd absolutely want starting a playoff game - but oh no, the Grinch here has to spread his negative views on literally everything the Blue Jays do. Obviously there's a possibility you're right and he's a massively overpaid #4/#5 starter for the rest of his career, but that's probability is likely very low at this point.

Perhaps it was better when you stayed in the off topic realm.

Berrios had a very weird season where he performed a bit of a Jekyll and Hyde routine. He made a lot of very good/great starts, but then had a large number of disaster starts which really tanked his overall numbers.

0-3 FIP: 12 starts

3-4 FIP:7 starts

4-5 FIP: 3 starts

5-10 FIP: 3 starts

10+ FIP: 7 starts

So Berrios pitched great in 12 of his 32 starts, very well in 7 starts, mediocre in 3 starts, very poorly in 3 starts, and had 7 absolute disaster starts. He gave his team a great chance to win in 19/32 starts (59%), kept them in the game at the very least in 22/32 starts (69%), and basically gave his team no shot to win in 10/32 of his starts (31%).
