Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Comes in, throws a hanging slider to Julio. mkay.
Kordesi Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Crazy that walk cost them. Still they are in the lead but going to get tense
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 They aren't tanking at the moment because they still have a chance to play at home, but if they lose that chance tonight I could see them resting players and not being too upset about moving down in the standings. This is the MLB, man. And who cares who we face, we're at home and the better team, f*** them both. When are you going to stop the Chicken Little act?
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Crazy that walk cost them. Still they are in the lead but going to get tense This is fun, mate.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Okay. 6 outs. Just do not let Julio come to bat again. Ez win.
jaysblue Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 You don't think the Mariner's are tanking for the matchup do you? Nah but I see them resting some of their regulars over the next two games if they can't get the 1st Wildcard seed. So anything could happen.

When are you going to stop Chicken Little act? Maybe you think we're the greatest team in baseball and playing at home somehow makes us invincible, but I'm a realist and I want the best matchup. Clearly, anybody with common sense can see, that is not Tampa bay, it's Seattle. It's not to say Seattle can't beat us, nor is it to say that we can't be Tampa, but you always want the better odds, and Seattle are a better matchup for us.

Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Matt Boyd looks amazing. I'm happy to see him healthy again.
Solaxys Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Rays lost to the Sox today. Either neither want to win and both tanking for Cleveland OR both aren't that good atm.

We’ve just played the Rays so much recently that im over it. I love the M’s. Would be a much better series IMO and I wouldn’t even be angry if they beat us. If we play the Rays and lose i’ll be f***ing heated all winter
Masterbather Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Matt Boyd looks amazing. I'm happy to see him healthy again. If Mariners were smart they would pitch him against us plenty. A left hander with a change up? That's our Kryptonite.

I'm going back as far as you started with the we were going to lose 4 or get swept in that 5 game set in 4 days at the RC... of course playing at home against either team is an advantage. Who cares.

Kordesi Verified Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Obviously ideally we want the Mariners rather than Rays but the most important objective remains to have home advantage. All we can control is winning our games which we have. The rest is more hope.

Playing at home helps, quite frankly our record home and road this season suggests that it's not that much of a big deal but postseason maybe it matters a little bit more. But the team you face absolutely does matter. Tampa bay is a better team than Seattle, so given the choice I think myself, most of the fan base and certainly the front office desperately would rather play Seattle and take our chances from there. I don't think that's a particularly outlandish statement.

It will be interesting to see how they use him, considering he's their only lefty and we may have none in our lineup.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 You don't seem to get my point? You said they were trying to lose, that's absurd, the players certainly aren't trying to lose. I mean... Boohoo, the Mariners are going to rest their players if they lose tonight, so will the Rays and Jays, lmao. Wow!

Boohoo, the Mariners are going to rest their players if they lose tonight, so will the Rays and Jays, lmao. Wow! I didn't mean to suggest they were trying to lose tonight. Obviously they still want to win because they have a chance to play at home, but if they fail, they might make decisions in the next couple days with an eye towards Cleveland instead. If you don't think that professional teams don't intentionally manipulate their chances in order to try to pick playoff opponents then I don't know what to tell you because it does happen. It definitely happens in the NBA probably more than other sports. Now, I don't know which team Seattle would rather play or if they have a strong preference either way, but if they do have a preference for Cleveland it will affect their decision making.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted October 4, 2022 Posted October 4, 2022 Chafin's closing? I would prefer Gregory Soto, but they have a DH tomorrow, so it's an understandable move.
