Royals acquired OF Drew Waters, RHP Andrew Hoffmann and INF CJ Alexander from the Braves for a competitive balance selection (35th overall) in the 2022 MLB Draft.

 

The deal is now official. The meteoric rise of fellow outfielder prospect Michael Harris II was likely the deciding factor in the Braves' decision to jettison Waters, who was blocked from a clear path to regular playing time in Atlanta in the future. The 23-year-old top prospect will receive a change of scenery after hitting just .253/.311/.411 with six homers and five steals in 52 games this season between High-A Rome and Triple-A Gwinnett. He's been dealt for the 32nd selection in the upcoming 2022 MLB Draft, which carries a slot value of $2.2 million.
