The red sux offer to Bogaerts this spring has been revealed and it was 4/90. That's perhaps the most insulting offer that I have ever seen. Corey Seager's deal isn't an outrageous comp. I guess Devers' offer was just as bad. It will be interesting to see what they spend on with those 2 leaving and a poor farm system.

Wouldn’t that extension have to be 4/90 tacked n the end of the current deal though assuming he didn’t opt out? Like, they can’t offer a new 4 year deal to replace the next 4 years that’s already there can they, which would have been 3/60 with a vesting 4th year for another 20?

MLBTR makes it sound like it would have just tacked 1/30 onto the end of the contract and removed the opt out, but even a 7/150 deal is extremely insulting in my opinion.

Yeah, you’re right looks like their offer was just to remove the vesting 20 million language and make it a guaranteed 30.

That would never get it done.

He’ll be looking for Semien money as a starting point and even that would be pretty low.

Yeah 6 earned runs against the ChiSox… let’s see what Gausman does tomorrow lol.

If Vaughn is legit they’re going to have a pretty suck lineup

Never gave up 6 ER in a single start with us last season. Max was 5.

J-Rod suxxxxxxxxxxxxx :P

J-Rod skipped AAA so it would not be that weird for him to struggle this year. I'll give him a mulligan on 2022 if it ends up looking bad.

I remember when Kelenic was having his service time "manipulated" before he even got to AAA. These upper levels exist for a reason. I feel like the Mariners were pressured into "not manipulating" his time and now he looks broken.

Yup and guys are not hitting the ground running like they did for a minute with Acuna and Tatis yet most people still think top prospects are going to make an impact immediately

Bobby Whitt, J Rod and Tork are like a combined 5-50 so far.

On the other hand, is it better to try and work out how to hit MLB pitching even if it takes 1-2 years? Does it matter if he torches AAA but still struggles against MLB like most guys do?

Just something to think about. Not sure what the best course of action should be but its interesting that just in the last few years it seems like a lot of top prospects are completely skipping AAA. I don’t think that was a thing 10 years ago

I think people don't realize how special guys like Acuna, Soto and Tatis are. These are generational talents that look like near slam dunk HoFers already in their early 20s unless injuries derail their careers. Guys like Witt/Kelenic/Torkelson are great prospects in their own right, but most fans aren't adjusting their expectations enough to account for the gap between them and the Soto/Acuna/Tatis caliber of player.

That said, I do think Julio Rodriguez has a chance to hit the ground running in the majors.

Yeah, that was tongue in cheek, he's got to get that K-rate down though, plus we're like 6 games in.

Yes. Haven't watched a single one of his AB, has anyone? Is the K rate from overmatched, or overaggressive. Probably the latter.

Completely overmatched, Jim. Looks like Spanky in beer league slo-pitch up there.

It’s crazy that they all came up at the same time and hit the ground running and nobody else has since then. Even Vlad sucked for a while. At least nobody I can think of off the top of my head.

Franco started slow for like 5 games and then had a 40 game on base streak.

Good call. The generational tier. Only Vlad fumbled upon arrival

Vlad was a fat f*** with a groundball problem. Luckily seems like he put in the work to fix his issues.

lol. Vlad was f***ing above them all except for the fatness and ground balls. I mean, I'm not even joking here in terms of hard contact he was elite even when bad.

I saw him 2019 in an August Yankees series. He was by far hitting the ball harder than anyone on either team and was not over-matched at all. Of course that amounted to a 120 mph single off the wall, a ground ball triple, and a ground ball double play off Chapman after 18 pitches or something.

The fear for Vlad was that he would have the best hard contact numbers is the league and it would amount to .275 with 19 homers and 40 gidp... looks like he has overcome the launch angle thing happily.

If Kelenic and J-Rod flop, the M's will be set back a decade.

The M's should have one of the most exciting young teams in baseball

Kelenic

J-Rod

Lewis

Winker

Crawford

France

Haniger

Toro

Ray

Brash

Gilbert

It's quite the core. IMO, it has a chance to be a throw back to the Griffey/Arod/Edgar/Unit days.

Yeah, this happened here and there, what I don't recall happening was just like Kirk just basically skipping from A to the MLB. Outside of Olerud who went from draft pick to MLB w/o playing a single game in the minors.
