2nd hand smoke inhalation?

Consider this your one warning. This particular horse has been beaten to death and is stinking up the board.

How’d he die? Steroid heart attack like all those ‘90s wrestlers?

FEBRUARY 10: The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner/Coroner’s Office has ruled Giambi’s death a suicide, reports Matt Kawahara of the San Francisco Chronicle. According to the M.E.’s Office, he died of a gunshot wound to the chest. Barry Zito, Giambi’s former teammate in Oakland, told the Chronicle Giambi was “an incredibly loving human being with a very soft heart and it was evident to us as his teammates that he had some deeper battles going on. I hope this can be a wake-up call for people out there to not go at it alone and for families and friends to trust their intuition when they feel somebody close to them needs help. God bless Jeremy and his family in this difficult time.”

Bob Saget was a weird one. Apparently bumped his head and didn’t realize it..died in his sleep from head trauma

Apparently he was COVID positive and he had an enlarged heart also. But ya, brain bleed was the official cause of death.

Death by brain hemorrhage the way Saget died is relatively common, actually. His death was not attributed to covid.

I love grilled cheese and tomato soup but for some reason haven’t had it in a very long time. I appreciate you putting it in my head

Speaking just OT on food for one second, anyone try McDonalds “surf and turf”.. I don’t eat there much but saw it advertised and felt adventurous. But they just give you a fish filet and double cheeseburger and you put it together. I felt kind of duped. But after combining them it was alright I guess

Glad Soto turned that down rather than go for the financial security. It’s a risk because a lot can happen in 3 seasons but he has 3 expensive arb years left and then could be a $500m player in free agency (or damn close to it). I’m sure it was hard to turn down $350m guaranteed but when you could potentially get $150m more than that, you have to weigh the risk/reward. Hope he stays healthy and gets to that level after 2024.

That's exactly it though. Risk and reward. If you're making $350m, what does that extra $150m ACTUALLY mean to him? On the other hand, let's say he has an accident during the lockdown (or even long haul COVID) or a bad injury while playing and he's made next to nothing at this stage in his career. Heck, who knows how the next CBA will affect top earners. Is the risk of (maybe) $150m that he probably won't know what to do with anyway worth risking the financial security of setting himself and his family up for generations? IMO the risk/reward doesn't compute for turning down a solid offer like that. It would be entirely different if he had been lowballed.

I don't think the next CBA will impact what top earners get. There won't be a salary cap or floor, and the CBT is probably going to increase at least marginally, if not more than that, so I doubt much will change as far as what elite players are getting on the open market unless league revenues suddenly plummet 3 years from now. Whether Soto could get $500m is debatable, but I think he beats what Trout got given his age. Where I agree with you is injury. If he was a FA a year from now then the risk would be considerably less, but 3 years is a long time, and anything can happen. However, if Soto feels he could get more than that by waiting, then I respect that he's willing to bet on himself (or wait for a better offer from the Nats).

Also, 350/13 is a little under $27m AAV. That could be viewed as a lowball offer even factoring that he's not a FA for another 3 years. His arb years are going to be high, probably around $60-70m in total. He'd be selling his FA years way short.

Meh, I'm with Abom, 350 Million guaranteed is really risky to bet on health. He'll definitely get more if he continues at this pace, not sure about 500M though.

If you offer Vlad $350M over 13 years when the lockout ends, does he take it?

I think he would take it if he genuinely likes it here in Canada.

The balls on that guy….that’s some serious money to risk on me idiot pitcher that loses his grip on fastball and shatters his forearm….or runs into a wall chasing down a fly and jams a shoulder.

27 million per year is nearly UFA money. I could never turn that down in my wildest dreams

Yeah, it's kind of mind blowing.

If Soto ends up getting a lot more, Tatis seems like the kind of guy who would throw a tantrum and claim that he's underpaid and that he got ripped off by the Padres.

Nah, he'd just go out and hit an unsportsmanlike homer.
