You have got to be f***ing kidding me.

The OFFICIAL MLB channel is getting rid of/banning inarguably the sport’s best reporter

Yup, sounds like MLB. Actively working to destroy any sense of progress and growth

This feels like a great opportunity for Rogers and Sportsnet!

Where does he live, also, he's still with the Athletic. I'd love having him on a morning show, oops We have none.

Jomboy media going big game hunting

Meh, his contract was up, he was not offered to be re-signed. So what? They have no responsibility to keep him employed.

The reason is pretty s*****, but still

He's still a main product of the Athletic and Fox, he'll find another gig soon.

That was my first thought. Jomboy Media got Chris Rose after he was gone from MLB Network. Not sure if Rosenthal is within their budget but the company appears to be growing and Ken is still getting FOX money either way.

MLB Network is owned by MLB Advanced Media, a limited partnership of the MLB club owners. It shouldn't surprise anyone that his contract is not renewed. I'd rather Rosenthal be free to speak his mind, rather than be constrained by his employer.

He wasn't constrained to MLB Network one bit. He still was free of his point of view, etc via twitter as per usual, his main grounds of employment remain at the Athletic. Fox, MLBN and ESPN use him as a sub worker for those pieces of work, period.

Possibly, if he didn't care if MLB Network continued to employ him or not. Usually, employees are careful what they say, lest they piss off the bosses.

lol...Kenny Ken is beyond professional. This move is petty at first glance.

One of the biggest misconceptions is that the Commissioner job is about bettering baseball. It's about the interests of the Commissioners 30 employers. I was a Manfred supporter at one time because he would actually talk that baseball's future is not shiny. But he's let the entire public narrative be that baseball is s***** and hasn't made a significant change. The owners loved him when he won the 2016 CBA for them so clearly. If he doesn't win this one the Owners will pretty much use him to push for whatever changes they really want and blame him for ruining baseball and bring in some new lackey to be the saviour.

The only source I've seen for the reason is the New York Post, so I mean... grain of salt on that until a more reputable source comes along IMO.

But if that's accurate, there goes the dreams of working at MLB network for literally everyone on this board!

I'm with Jeff on this one.

Pretty much. If you're willing to give them a contract to play, then you cant turn around later and say "no we dont think you should be in the Hall Of Fame because you're an *******."

I feel the same way about PEDs. Unless you get banned from baseball based on multiple offenses which is in the current agreement, if you played well enough to get in, you get in, juiced or not.

Basically, anything up to the point of being banned from baseball should not exclude you from the Hall.

I also agree with his point that in MOST cases, a writer probably doesn't have enough information about that person's character to allow it to play significantly into his decision. I'm sure there are cases where writers leave someone off the ballot because that player was an ******* to them at one point or didn't interact with the media enough - when in reality, they had no idea what that player was going through (maybe had a family member sick or issues with a wife or kids and blowing off the media wasn't him being an *******, it was him being human).

Yes, but it also sounds like Passan is doing some proactive explaining to defend his choice of Schilling before the Twitter crowd beats up on him. "I find everything that Curt Schilling has done from the day he was born up until today EXCEPT for the times he has spent on a baseball pitching mound to be completely abhorrent". He can give his logical reasoning for voting without having to cite that one very convenient example.

Don't forget that the character clause was made at a time when...let's just say the bar for character was much lower than it would be today. Dude was outwardly racist...that's fine. Basically if you weren't a mafioso or serial killer you passed that clause. Today the standard is controversial political opinions.

I agree with everything he said up until he runs his justification why he voted for Schilling.

Kind of a beta move but he’s also the most alpha in the industry for saying what needed to be said.

He’s neutral because he followed a beta move with an alpha one
