You know, in every other normal business, increasing your local revenues results in an increase to your profits. And that in itself is the reward. I'm really getting sick of these whiny so-called have-not small market team owners and baseball's urge to coddle them and cater to their every whim.

TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2022 Author Posted March 10, 2022 Saw this on reddit, I really hope everything works out for you man. Thank you for the kind words brother. Means a lot and I genuinely appreciate it. Turns out that I was one of the people that was let go. Almost my entire full-time team was. From what I gather, they only kept four full-timers out of a staff of like 20. Besides that, the only people they kept were freelancers. Looks like they want to pivot to a cheaper model and see how much traffic they can still generate. Gonna try to keep my chin up and see if I can land on my feet. Will see how easy that is to do with my anxiety and persistent depressive disorders, lol.

jerb Verified Member Posted March 10, 2022 Posted March 10, 2022 Jayson Stark @jaysonst Some details emerging on how the expanded playoffs will work: * No more Game 163 tiebreakers. All playoff spots will be determined through NFL-type tiebreaker formulas. * No re-seeding for the LDS. 1st seed plays winner of 4 vs. 5 Wild Card Series. 2nd seed plays 3 vs 6 winner. Jayson Stark @jaysonst Those tiebreaker games have to bite the dust to make sure the Wild Card Series can start two days after the end of the regular season. That's especially true in this postseason, which has to fit into a tighter window so World Series dates don't have to be moved.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 This is terrible news for the AL Central, but good for the Jays.
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 This is terrible news for the AL Central, but good for the Jays. Niceee. Now with the new playoff format (only top 2 teams in each league are secured an Ds spot) they should just go back to 4 divisions. AL East AL West NL East NL West Maybe when expansion hits and they add 2 more teams. Then the divisions would be balanced at 8 teams each
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Author Posted March 11, 2022 What do you do? There's a lot of people here, maybe one of us has a lead or something! I was an editor-in-chief/managing editor for an esports media publication. Basically did everything from hiring and onboarding to writing, editing, social media, SEO management and payroll. Hoping to land on my feet somewhere else in the sports media industry.

Well I'm no help in that field, but if you need someone to talk to - I know I'm here for you man and I'm sure there are several others on the board who are too. If times get really tough, shoot me a message.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 This is terrible news for the AL Central, but good for the Jays. Still means Boston, NYY, and Tampa get to beat up on shittier teams too.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Still means Boston, NYY, and Tampa get to beat up on shittier teams too. Hate the change for rivalry reasons, but with the universal DH, there are no league differences left, I think. Plus the change allows for travel efficiencies.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 Still means Boston, NYY, and Tampa get to beat up on shittier teams too. Yeah but it's a significant boost for any AL East team's wild card chances. Those formerly competitive teams from the other divisions will just get buried now. Like the 2021 Mariners will be 10 games back instead of tied for the WC spot in September. Oakland and Cleveland need to be a lot better to compete. etc.
John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted March 11, 2022 Posted March 11, 2022 One surefire way to know the deal was a good one for the players, Jim Bowden has done nothing but whine about how bad it is. Delicious.

Delicious. Can’t believe the executive board + Boras almost torpedoed the deal and likely the season. Thank god the rest of the player reps aren’t a bunch of mega rich *******s.

Depending on the angle you view it, it's a good thing the executive board wanted to keep fighting, but went with their consituents wishes, that's their job.
