Perhaps the most jarring thing you'll ever see as a baseball fan and the biggest wake-up call that Baseball is now in its first work stoppage in a generation: MLB.com has been scrubbed of all active MLB players.

The home page does not mention any active players in any capacity, the "Players" section of the site has been killed and removed from the navigation menu, the Video library has been hidden and all player photos have been removed.

This is most likely because the MLB no longer has rights to using the players' likeness since no CBA exists between the two parties.

Spooky

Think when you add the “y” it’s ok

Yeah, I thought so too. But I read an article tonight from CBC that says "spooky" is racist and problematic as well.

You know what would be great? If the Internet collectively would scrub all mention of Tony Clark and Manfred. No news stations would even send out a reporter to cover any of it.

We'd have an agreement in 2 weeks.

I'd appreciate if a mod could put expressions into a white-list and black-list, so we know which ones to avoid.

For the gamers out there, what happens to The Show? Are they gonna send out an update naming guys “Ted Blaster” and such? Lol

I really wish there was a way for some bored billionaire to legally create a competing league so we could watch competitive baseball without Manfred and Clark involved.

As long as no games are lost, this is just a temporary annoyance, but I have no faith that either side cares about the game or the fans at all to make sure that doesn’t happen.

Bored billionaires are part of the problem here though...

I don't think we care about words specifically as much as the context in which those words are used. I don't think it's a secret that I'm a pretty liberal dude, but I'm also 43 years old, so I don't have a problem with someone saying "that's gay" (for example), but homophobic attacks on other posters I will absolutely take issue with.

I'm not banning anyone for "spooky". Or apparently "lame" is a problem now too? Yeah, f*** that noise. It's lame. And gay. Not spooky though.

Reading an article from CBC can be problematic

Here are some other unacceptable words and phrases from the article:

Blackmail

Brainstorm

Dumb

Totem pole

Grandfathered in

Blind spot

Black sheep

Inner city

Tone deaf

In essence, anything that uses the word black is offensive because that is the colour of some people's skin. It is also offensive to reference any kind of disability. It's all pretty lame.

I'm older and suburban so I don't know what the problem with "spooky" is. I think Sigmund Freud used the term but that was according to MASH.

Dumb and lame

Dumb is modernly used to describe lack of intelligence, but it was once used to describe someone who lacked the ability to speak. Similarly, lame is now used to describe someone or something that's boring or unexciting, but was also a term used against those who have limitations of movement in their limbs.

Both are highly offensive when describing people in the disability community, but also when used casually, says Cashman.

"People now are using lame as a slang, so they go around saying that's lame," she said. "I don't think they really understand what that means .. they just think it's a cool term, but for me, when I hear that, I definitely know what that term means ... it's something I wouldn't say."

And gay used to mean happy. The meaning of words change over time and with different context. If that's not how the words are being used today or what is meant by the phrases, it shouldn't be considered offensive. You could probably throw out the vast majority of the words we use because of something that happened in the past where they were used in unfortunate ways. Words are often made up to mark something of importance, and a lot of those events are either negative or controversial in some way.

I remember when fag was a cigarette. Now it describes my 1st cousin who's in the closet.
