Lol no f***ing way. Surprised they actually did. Terrible trade from the moment it happened, Hand’s peripherals this year were f***ing awful. Waste of decent prospect.

That's f***ed. What a s***** trade.

This ones got a chance to go down as the worst trade in franchise history.

Riley Adams OPS with the Nationals is higher than Vladdy's now

If Adams even becomes a half way decent platoon catcher/2nd div starter this trade will be laughed at for years. Even worse than the Yan Gomes debacle.

what my factual, in jest, post is worse than his "worst trade in Franchise history"?

Your way too bearish on Adams.

And I said chance. Didnt declare it the worst in franchise history already.

What a pathetic trade that many hated at the time. Front office needs to get their s*** together this offseason and sure up the bullpen.

This is was some absolutely pisspoor asset management.

Don’t forget bring up a C that doesn’t deserve to be in the bigs rn so you can pamper one of your underperforming SP to make him feel better

The trade sucked.

Continuing to roll Brad Hand out there out of stubbornness would have been compounding a bad decision. He really sucked.

Bad trade, good DFA.

I hated this trade from the jump, look it up.

Hats off for doing the right thing despite it making an already f***ing retarded trade look even worse.

Hopefully Atkins doesn't do something that stupid again. Just gave away some of the Jays catching depth.

The trade was fine at the time. Many questioned whether Hand was the right guy to acquire and they were ultimately proven right. But trading our ~5th best C in the org for a RP was a good call, it just didn't work out bc they couldn't fix what they thought was wrong with Hand.

Good for the Jays to cut bait so quickly though.

Just because he was 5th on the depth chart doesnt mean you trade him for scraps.

In hindsight, this might actually be the worst trade Shatkins has made during their tenure thus far. I thought Adams was a little steep at the time for a rental reliever making a decent amount of money with poor peripherals, but it's just aged poorly with Adams have a short sample hot streak, and Brad Hand legitimately costing us games.

It is what it is. They've still made much more good trades than bad though. Gotta look at the overall body of work in the grand scheme of things instead of focusing on one particular transaction.

It's kind of interesting how even the best run teams end up making some poor choices in the heat of the moment when they have a chance to compete:

Dodgers traded Yordan Alvarez to the Astros for Josh Fields

Astros traded Teoscar Hernandez to us for Francisco Liriano

There's probably many more examples of this, but some teams really are willing to overpay a bit to try and make a run. I think that was the rationale here, but obviously it backfired tremendously with Hand being a negative-value guy.

Nope but it does mean that he's a surplus asset that should probably be moved. He probably wouldn't have lasted through the offseason anyway due to 40-man roster concerns. So he had to go they just got the wrong guy in return.

It's not a great trade but "worst trade in franchise history"? Lol. That take tastes like I just gave you a Rusty Trombone.

He was DFA'd to prevent Montoyo from using him to protect leads.

Reminds me of the scene in Moneyball where he tells Art Howe he can't play Pena at 1st anymore.

My offseason posts about teams missing the boat when Hand cleared waivers were very stupid.

You may have posted it but a lot of us (me included) thought the same.

Horrible trade FO when we needed to add real value in the pen at the deadline.

Good job FO taking the heat and cutting bait.

If we had gone out and got Kimbrel instead of Hand we would probably be in a playoff spot right now. Or at least much closer.

Now, I don’t know what the cost would have been but I would have rather done Adams + for him instead.
