The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 I would be livid. How do you not get something for those 2 I could see them holding if they were playing .500, but they’re the 3rd worst record in the NL and 15 games under .500
KevinGregg Verified Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 Pearson is my favourite, I’m so happy we kept him
Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 30, 2021 Posted July 30, 2021 He replaced Joe Panik, so he actually will move the needle a bit. Dickerson could be surprisingly good. He's a really cool hitter. When healthy he has pop and very solid bat to ball skills, albeit a very aggressive approach. Young Corey Dickerson had a hitting profile very much like Bo Bichette's. That's not even an exaggeration. Middle aged Grichuk + Dickerson in platoon = Bichette That is an exaggeration but maybe not a huge one. These guys could hit .280 .325 .490 as partners.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 He's standing pat, save for a few arms. Whoops, lol.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Elite SP/RP John Gant! Hahaha... I was waiting for this.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Players play to win and if the organization does not, then most probably you are going to have some unhappy campers. And unhappy campers may not want to resign. If the organization demonstrates that they believe in the players on the team by supporting them with some moves, then players like Ray and other free agents are more likely to sign. If you go into free agency with the reputation of an organization that is always looking to the future collecting prospects, you will probably have a more difficult time trying to sign top tier talent that wants to win now. Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Does Berrios cost the Jays one of their upper echelon prospects? Ahhh yea....!!!
JFD Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Apparently the Jays made an attempt to get Ramirez? I hope they continue to pursue him. I couldn't think of a more perfect fit with Vladdy. Two studs on the corner infield positions would be epic.

But good lord he would be an amazing add to this roster, fill a huge hole in the field and also add a productive switch hitting bat.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Imagine being a Rockies fan and seeing all the prospects getting thrown around while holding onto Jon Gray and Story. Just to see them leave this year in free agency They could have got rid of Story and Marquez revamped their farm. The losses would have started to mount this year and next. Why get the 6th or 7th pick in the draft when top 3 or 4 picks are within your grasp this year and next. They have zero chance over the next two years.

I'm sure our package of Martin, Woods-Richardson and toss in Biggio for Marquez and Story would have happened if the Rockies weren't so stupid. Both sides would have been better off.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Apparently they plan to discuss extending Gray and he’s open to it. They said all the Story offers were underwhelming and if there was anything close it probably would’ve made it over the finish line. He is rocking a 84 wRC. They said comp pick felt like best bet

Even if all they were offered for Story was Alex Canario or Pete Crow Armstrong, that's better than a comp pick.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Looking at Bryant- who is having good season, although slowing down… hard to think comp pick for Story was a horrible idea

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Yeah except Bryant isn’t garbage this year, so subtract from his deal and then judge Story would project better ROS, easily. It's not like his peripherals are alarming. Probably just not motivated because he plays for a trash org. It's a given that some team was offering something for Story equal to what we saw move for these other veteran bats

So it’s just not that player. It might be a couple other players. “But with that pick, that was where Trevor was drafted. Nolan [Arenado] was in the vicinity, Ryan McMahon -- we’ve had some success. We’ve had some misses, but we’ve had a lot of success in those areas.” Hard to call that a logic fail. Honestly I’d rather have a Round A comp pick than even Canaria. Isn’t even in High A at 21 and struggling hard. I’d rather have the re-do

Yeah, it COULD be, but it's not the likely scenario. I'm glad he has the confidence in his drafting, but that's just hoping to make the best of a bad situation.

Take your obvious hate of the Rockies org out of the equation and just honestly say if you’d rather have a draft pick right out of the 1st round or Canario. And even if you take Canario, is it a no-brainer?
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Or if you want a real world metaphor think of having a $5 winner on a $5 scratched off lottery game, or an unscratched $5 ticket from same game (which is worth less)? Returns for Bryant, Escobar, etc are likely org guys

Laika Community Moderator Posted July 31, 2021 Posted July 31, 2021 Well, answer my question 2 posts up Canario is a 45 FV prospect. Fangraphs said there were only 23 45 FV or better prospects in the 2021 draft. So yeah, Canario is better than a comp round pick. He's also not really struggling this year. He's treading water. The overall slashline is average but he's showing some power and speed without striking out at an egregious clip. And the Cubs for a second piece for Bryant. Caleb Kilian has really good numbers. The Rockies also have a dogshit draft record recently so it's not like the GM can lean on a great drafting and developing org. They are one of the worst. Almost all of their top few rounds picks in recent years suck or are just bit players.

You sound like a lawyer What, you meant for me to address your stupid scratch ticket metaphor? Lmao no. You've died on a lot of weird hills in your posting life but "The Rockies are actually right and good to not sell during the most seller favourable trade deadline in MLB history" might be the f***ing weirdest.

No. You just replied that basically Canario was worth slightly more than the draft slot in a vacuum (which I didn’t deny). You didn’t say which you’d actually prefer the Jays to have gotten in a trade

You didn’t say which you’d actually prefer the Jays to have gotten in a trade Fangraphs ranked all the prospects traded at the deadline. They also included "compensatory pick" because of the Bryant thing. https://blogs.fangraphs.com/ranking-the-prospects-traded-during-the-2021-deadline/ Pretty hard to argue that Colorado would not have received more than the comp pick. Brian got a player a tier above the pick PLUS a player equal to the pick. Edited August 3, 2021 by Laika
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted August 3, 2021 Posted August 3, 2021 Interesting. I find a few things interesting: 1. They rate SWR over Austin Martin (although only by 1 spot) 2. PCA seems low on the list
