ShowtimeBelli Verified Member Posted May 24, 2021 Posted May 24, 2021 Ryu, Ray, Manoah, Matz is a decent top 4 in the rotation. Maybe Stripling can give us a little more of what we saw today. Maybe we won't have to continue to use 8 relievers a day

Maybe we won't have to continue to use 8 relievers a day Finally a decision that I can get behind! I thought Strip looked great today. He clearly made some adjustments as Joe pointed out. Hopefully he can string together some decent starts like today. It's a shame we wasted his effort today.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Sean Nolin kind of debut? Go steal a mango
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 The starters weren't the reason why we lost the most recent games. You're right. Not using Romano to get the final out yesterday, and Romano to pitch the 10th were much bigger reasons we lost.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 We could see in the very near future a rotation of.. Ryu Ray Matz Manoah Hatch That's the makings of a solid rotation.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 This would allow Stripling to jump into the pen to help lengthen it Pearson can be insurance for now while he builds himself up in AAA. All of a sudden that looks like decent set up, with the pen lengthening with Stripling like you mentioned. Borucki should be back soon also i think.
gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Hell yes it is. How close is Hatch? I think he threw 3 innings a few days ago. I would say another 2-3 outings, so maybe 2 weeks?
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Go steal a mango Pushing the envelope, badass!
Stangstag Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 God I hope Manoah does well. We desperately need a starter that can go like 5-6 innings for 2-3 runs. Offense will handle the rest.
BigCecil Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 This is the right call in today’s game. Let him develop more against the best. Got my attention. That start is can’t miss TV. Now if we could option Charlie to AAA to switch spots it would be perfect.

Great to see the Jays management being progressive. Bring the kid up and let him dominate. Let's go. Now all jays management need to do is punt Montoyo to the moon.

If you're special, you're special. Hopefully Manoah is special. I'm glad we're getting the opportunity to find out.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Must watch TV. Wonder if we'll see the same swagger? I like the idea of him pitching against the Yankees in Yankees Stadium. I don't feel a game like this could wreck his confidence, only help it. On one had if he pitches good, he just took on the best in their house. On the other if he has a less then ideal start, well it was against the best in their home; which is better for the moral than him getting lit up by the Tigers.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 Jose Fernandez and Chris Sale were both brought up early. If you're special, you're special. Hopefully Manoah is special. I'm glad we're getting the opportunity to find out. It's not even that early in terms of time. He was arguably the top college P in the 2019 draft. There are 2018 high school picks that have debuted now. Obviously he is missing the typical amount of minor league games but that doesn't necessarily mean he has missed any development.

I have gotten into it with Mike Wilner on Twitter a few times. I am sure some fans like him would like these players to rot in the minors until they are 29 or something. FFS Manoah is 23 and dominating. And really, in sum, until the Jays can start playing consistent .500 ball against the Rays we're not going anywhere in the post-season anyway, so let's have some fun watching the kids play.
Sorrow Verified Member Posted May 25, 2021 Posted May 25, 2021 I think he's earned a kick at the can, he's clearly not being challenged in AAA. I know I was in an argument with a friend yesterday about this and he was insistent that Manoah needs more time in AAA (arbitrary innings counts) but there's quite literally no point in letting him just coast in AAA instead of being challenged if you want him to actually develop.

Mike Wilner is a tool. Though in a recent post he did say he's excited for the call up, so there's that.
