BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Wonder if the Jays offer would get leaked. I can't see our offer being close to that but the fact our jersey was in his video... it was a good enough offer to be considered. Can someone kindly link the video?
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 So, L54 is pro toddler punching. That's a bold stance. No I’m pro letting people say whatever the f*** they want. If some chick wants to talk s*** to Trevor Bauer go ahead. If he wants to talk s*** back using the “I’m just a college girl” shield is weak and cowardly
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2021 Author Posted February 6, 2021 What BTS said. And it's decidedly not like toddler punching, lol. Worst case scenario for the person is they have to delete Twitter or make a new handle. Big whoop. Personally if I negged a famous person and got dog piled by their followers I would find it hilarious and wear the event as a badge of honour I don't know if you'd find it as funny if people doxed you and started showing up/sending stuff to your house or workplace, which is something that's become all too common with social media. That said, I actually do agree with both of you that people who are vile shitbags online deserve the reality check that comes with a celebrity actually responding to them. As BTS said, talk s*** get hit.

Laika Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 I've seen a couple of tweets say that Bauer has posted anti-Semitic and anti-trans stuff. Is this just completely made up?
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Bauer is frustrating. In a lot of ways he comes off as one of the most thoughtful and engaging players in the league, but he also shoots himself in the foot and limits his audience with comments like the one above. What's to be gained by drawing attention to an obviously fake quote?

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 The real life version of Bauer versus no name college chick happened a few days ago when LeBron got some slut wife kicked out of a game for bad mouthing him and defending her bald meatball geriatric husband for also mouthing off. You either side with both athletes or side with the nobodies in both incidents. If you agree with one and disagree with the other, then your politics or biased world view is getting in the way. With that being said, the whiny look on LeBron's face...we don't know what Bauer's facial expressions were while he was posting on Twitter so he does have that advantage.

Or, they can all be in the wrong. Generally speaking, disputes are not one-sided. You can find fault with both Bauer (he tweeted at the girl 80 times) and the college girl. You can find fault with both LeBron and the bad mouthers.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 6, 2021 Posted February 6, 2021 Advice for all pro athletes on social media: STICK TO SPORTS Only if that advice could be taken by the general public too. Just because you're a nobody, that gives you the right to run your mouth? Not speaking to you directly but just in general. People need to start being ok with hearing viewpoints that might be different than theirs. We'd be in a better place if we took time to understand why their viewpoints are the way they are instead of trying to vilify them immediately. We're a lot more alike than the crap we use to separate ourselves /kumbaya moment

I miss that interaction. I need that interaction. We as players need that interaction," he told reporters. "I don't feel like it was warranted (for the fan to be) kicked out. There was a back-and-forth between two grown men ... and we said our piece. He said his piece, I said my piece. And then when someone else jumped into it and said their piece. But I didn't think they should have been kicked out."

Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 7, 2021 Posted February 7, 2021 The purpose of the third year is to reduce the cap hit for the Dodgers on the first two years. Both sides know that there's no way Bauer is going to opt-in to the third year, even if he regresses. This is a two-year deal, they just didn't put it down as a two-year deal because the AAV would have been 42.5M and the Dodgers would have had to pay a lot more in luxury tax penalties or had a harder time getting under the cap. I wouldn't be surprised if the Dodgers are the ones who requested the third year in there. And then of course, if Bauer does completely fall off a cliff, he has a $17M insurance policy. Everyone has a right to their opinion, but why do you hate Bauer so much? He's the most transparent player in baseball, interacts with fans more than anyone else, does tons for both fans and up and coming players, pumps up driveline, and is a genuinely interesting person. I can see having an issue with his tendency to troll, but to me it just makes him more endearing.

We must also contend with an all time s***** insult in "old steroid ass". For me, that puts me on team Karen. At least Trevor was funny.

Also if you saw the wife, saying “nappy ass” also seemed appropriate

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 The Score: As far as the New York Mets are concerned, Trevor Bauer left them at the altar. The Mets believe they had a contract fully agreed to with the reigning National League Cy Young Award winner in the final 24 hours of his free agency, sources told Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Bauer signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers instead. The Mets worked closely on Thursday with Jon Fetterolf, one of Bauer's agents, and felt they were finalizing details of a contract. However, Bauer never signed a "term sheet" document with the Mets that would have essentially formalized the agreed-to terms on paper, according to Sherman. For Mets president Sandy Alderson, who's spent almost four decades in baseball operations, this appears to be uncharted territory. Alderson said he's never failed to close a deal after progressing as far as he did in negotiations with Bauer, a source told Sherman. The Mets reportedly offered Bauer a three-year, $105-million contract - some $3-million more than what he ultimately took from the Dodgers

Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Luba's reputation around the league is going to take a hit. Would be really interesting to know how this all went. I mean it seems foolish to think you've signed someone before they've actually signed anything...but were they given the verbal acceptance "yes, Mr. Bauer accepts those terms, please draw up the Contract and we will sign it" and then they just bailed and went to the Dodgers? If so, that's not cool.

I'm guessing that if he's stating publicly that he feels misled, the situation probably could have been handled better from Bauer's side.

Seems like the Luba team did everything they possibly could to maximize the deal for their client. Let's be honest - a lot of free agents have "left the Mets at the altar" this offseason.

He's not going to come out and say something unless they were misled by Bauer's camp.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 8, 2021 Posted February 8, 2021 Bauer had fun with his version of "the decision" and now he pays for it like Lebron did back then. Luckily not too many cared other than probably Mets fans lol.

Luckily not too many cared other than probably Mets fans lol. As an avowed Bauer fanboy, I'll say that I think his goal was to be transparent and engaging. His explanation of events is far from implausible. Personally, I don't know why he had to have all his marketing stuff ready to go from the second he signed but I suspect he's on the spectrum and very particular about how things need to be done. The reaction from Mets fans has been to mock Bauer's choice by laughing at Dodger stadium attendance...which is by far the highest in the entire league. Interesting strategy to say the least.
