THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 Tough to compare prospects to elite ones like Vlad and Bo. There aren't many of those walking around and if they're anywhere near those guys, we're looking at a dynasty. I'll say this, Moreno looks like one. And Martin is heating up after starting out real slow. The guy is starting his career in AA as well btw. Torkelson is in A+.

The guy is starting his career in AA as well btw. Torkelson is in A+. Moreno looks pretty legit. He already projects to be as a good a hitter as Jansen, right now. (95 wRC+ for Moreno vs 96 for Jansen). Not to mention that Jansen hasn’t come close to his projections over the last 3 years.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I can see Martin and Moreno getting the call next year. Groshans was very aggressively placed in double-A after just 71 professional games since getting signed out of highschool. He’s missed a ton of development time and there’s only so much clubs can do to simulate competition at a training site. I’m not surprised from the slow start from Groshans and nobody should be too concerned with the early struggles. Even Spencer Torkelson who annihilated college baseball for 3 years at ASU is only starting in high-A. And struggling, although I still believe he rakes when ready.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted June 3, 2021 Posted June 3, 2021 I'd bat a high OBP guy at 6th, like Biggio when he picks it back up to his norms.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted June 5, 2021 Author Posted June 5, 2021 I definitely want to see Vlad hitting 2nd. Revising my previous lineup, I'd probably go Semien third and drop Bichette to the five. 1 - Springer (CF) 2 - Vladito (1B) 3 - Semien (2B) 4 - Teoscar (DH) 5 - Bichette (SS) 6 - Kirk © 7 - Grichuk (RF) 8 - Gurriel (LF) 9 - Biggio (3B)

Definitely agree with Kirk at 6 as that's perfect. He had similar K/BB splits as Vlad in the minors and has fantastic bat to ball skills. Then we have 2 low OBP hitters after him followed by King OBP at 9 to turn over the lineup. Love it.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 6, 2021 Author Posted July 6, 2021 Lineup: CF | George Springer 1B | Vladimir Guerrero Jr. 2B | Marcus Semien SS | Bo Bichette DH | Teoscar Hernandez CA | Alejandro Kirk LF | Lourdes Gurriel Jr. / Corey Dickerson RF | Randal Grichuk 3B | Cavan Biggio Bench: C | Reese McGuire IF | Santiago Espinal PH | Corey Dickerson / Lourdes Gurriel Jr. PR | Joshua Palacios Rotation: SP | Hyun-Jin Ryu SP | Alek Manoah SP | Robbie Ray SP | Ross Stripling SP | Steven Matz Bullpen: RP | Jordan Romano RP | Julian Merrweather RP | Ryan Borucki RP | Adam Cimber RP | Tim Mayza RP | Trevor Richards RP | Jacob Barnes RP | Castro / Payamps / Saucedo This is one possible iteration of how I'd set the current roster if everyone were at full strength. If Merryweather and Borucki come back at full strength, this team is shockingly close to having 0 holes from 1-through-26. The lineup is obviously godlike but I'd ideally like to see Grichuk moved and replaced here. I'm not a fan of the Pillar-lite playstyle and he makes a lot of dollars that could be repurposed in the monster free agency class coming up. For the time being, I put Grichuk in right field, platoon Gurriel and Dickerson and play Teoscar at DH. Whenever Palacios gets healthy (hopefully soon), I like him more than Davis. I think a bench of McGuire, Espinal, Dickerson and Palacios is incredibly good and fills all the roles you need it to fill. With revamped Stripling, surging Manoah and first-two-times-through-the-order Ray, this is actually a very potent rotation. Real-world Matz is a little more volatile for my liking than his peripherals would suggest but he's more than serviceable as a 5th starter. Regarding prominent Jays players that are missing from this list, I'd like to see Jansen traded unless they can get something decent for McGuire and Dolis and Chatwood are f***ing garbage and have no place on my team.

THANOS Old-Timey Member Posted July 8, 2021 Posted July 8, 2021 With the rumored Nelson Cruz acquisition: 1 - Semien (2B) 2 - Bichette (SS) 3 - Vladito (1B) 4 - Cruz (DH) 5 - Springer (CF) 6 - Teoscar (RF) 7 - Kirk © 8 - Grichuk/Gurriel (LF) 9 - Biggio (3B) That's disgusting, and opens up a trade of Grich/LGJ once Dickerson is healthy so a platoon can be formed. Ideally we trade Grich but Gurriel definitely has more value.

Biggest thing in playoff has to be get Biggio way away from 3b. I know I always say it but honestly sometimes a dink and a donk changes games. It’s obviously not just errors with him but plays he doesn’t make that someone else would. If it happened in a playoff series you couldn’t just say bad luck

Now that we got enough sample size there, think it's all but a forgone conclusion that 2B is his only full time spot. Still a great super utility guy to have on the team.

Be nice if Martin or Groshans were destroying the minors and earning a later season call-up, but unfortunately they're just having adequate seasons but great for their age, like Bo's AA season. We could have seen Moreno, who was playing some 3B, but then he got hit by that pitcher, and shelved .

I had the same thought that Moreno had a real shot to join the club as the third baseman if he could show enough ability to man the position in the minors. I was also thinking there was a good shot that Kevin Smith would get a shot later on this season, but he's gone and put up a paltry .484 OPS so far in the month of July.

I don't think it would take a lot to get those guys. Nothing that would feel like a hit to the dick, anyway.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Current Blue Jays projected payroll for 2022 after the Gausman and Garcia signings. This is pending the actual breakdown for Gausman, I'm just assuming 22M for 2022 for now. Possible it's backloaded and they have more to work with right now. Dark tiles are guaranteed salaries. Light tiles are either league min guys or MLBTR arbitration estimates. League min is probably gonna be under 800K but I've rounded up for now. There are also at least $6M in signing bonuses (Berrios 5M, Garcia 1M). I've marked that down on the sheet but haven't included it in the total since that money is already spent.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 Vlad's gonna get ~8M in arbitration?
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted November 29, 2021 Author Posted November 29, 2021 Vlad's gonna get ~8M in arbitration? I honestly thought it would be quite a bit more than that (I'm still expecting it to come in higher) but that's what MLBTR is estimating.

Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted November 29, 2021 Posted November 29, 2021 That's actually a pretty competitive looking roster right there. Exciting to think that they can still probably add up to $40 million to it possibly. Plus Moreno at some point. Filled a huge gaping hole today with the Gausman signing. No go get Rodon and Iglesias or Mchugh.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 Valera is overseas now right? His spot would be McGuire or maybe Otto Lopez
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 If Jonathan Villar signs, in terms on rosterbation, that would be like watching porn where the camera is spending way too much on the dude Jays could use more more big bat
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted March 13, 2022 Posted March 13, 2022 The Jays need to adequately replace Semien. Bryant/Story/Chapman/Ramirez are the calibre of players we need, not a Villar type. That and one more good bullpen arm and we are set to win the world series!

Of course, I'm hoping they do something big and that moves Espinal to the bench

That and one more good bullpen arm and we are set to win the world series! While it would be nice to replace Semien's bat, I don't actually think this team as currently constructed NEEDS to do that. Springer Bichette Teo Vladdy Lourdes Biggio Jansen/Kirk Espinal Grichuk/Smith/Palacios That's a lineup that will score some runs. I disagree with the idea that we won't be right in the thick of the playoff race if we don't get another bat.

I wouldn't say need but more so want after seeing how effective the lineup was when we were fully healthy. It was damn near dominant and covered up a lot of issues with our crappy bullpen. The lineup you posted makes me sad after seeing last year's lineup. We just spent 12M a year on a 5th starter when that money should have been used for a 3B if the lineup you posted is indeed our opening day lineup. I'm more happy with Pearson/Stripling fighting for the 5th spot than I am seeing Espinal/Smith fight for the 3B spot.
