His price just went up 10%

Depending on Groshans/Martin development this year, Semien might not be a priority to re-sign.

Don't get me wrong, he's been great, and I'd love to have him on the team, but I don't know if the Jays should spend $100M over 4 years or whatever on him w/ the other pieces that are on the team. Of course, if Groshans/Martin aren't remotely ready, or Biggio can't get it back together, or they can get Vladdy and Bo signed to stupid cheap extensions, or any number of other things happen, it might make sense. There are only 3 positions where he works, and Bo/Groshans/Martin/Biggio also work at those positions, in whatever combination.

I mean, amazing problem to have regardless...

Semien's already put up 2.7 fWAR through May and Steamer's projection had him at 2.9 all year.

Looks like Steamer is a steaming pile.

Resigning Semien is certainly a luxury rather than an absolute necessity, but I just love the way to position player core looks going forward if his services are to be retained. Being able to potentially add a Martin or Groshans to the lineup within the next few seasons is just icing on the cake.

His ROS projections are all between 111 - 118 wRC+. Obviously we'd rather see it approaching 130, but that's still a quality regular bat. Essentially the same projections as Grichuk has ROS (Grichuk's wRC+ for May was 113, with his BB% plummeting to <2%).

Steamers actually projects Tellez to be a better hitter than Teo, Grichuk and Gurriel for ROS...

Charlie is obviously batting Panik 6th because he was 6 for his last 7. I don't really have an issue with that in a vacuum, but obviously over the long run, it's really dumb to have Panik hit ahead of Gurriel and Tellez.

I don't see them moving Vlad off 1B again

The system has guys coming up likely to play SS/3B

He's finally playing a position decently (above averagely even) and doesn't have to become a DH. I'm sure the front office is absolutely thrilled.

And he's hitting like a beast. Some guys seem to lose focus on hitting when they move around defensively or struggle defensively. Vlad probably isn't like that but why take the risk.

Bottom line? I wouldn't mess with it.

This^^^ Haha... good posts fellas.

Can someone clarify the rules regarding Reese McGuire?

When Kirk is healthy and ready to return, could McGuire be sent to Buffalo without having to clear waivers? If he has to clear waivers, I think he would be claimed. Options - Jays temporarily assign Kirk to Buffalo until they decide to trade Jansen or McGuire? It might make more sense to trade Jansen (more trade value) than McGuire or in a larger trade deal Kirk with Moreno becoming the future catcher

He would have to clear waivers. He is out of options. They actually designated him for assignment back in April and he did NOT get claimed.

Without checking the injury status of teams. I have no idea how many catchers are on the IL. He may be less likely to clear in a month when Kirk is eligible to return. The other play is optioning Jansen and going with Kirk and McGuire if you want to keep all three. You could option Kirk and run with McGuire and Jansen, but I don't think that makes sense. It really comes down to how you view Danny Jansen. You just cut Reece loose or you option Jansen and you can DFA Reece at a later point if you want to maintain the catching depth. A spell at AAA might do Danny some good. His bat needs to come around.

I would trade McGuire for bullpen help if possible...

The fact that he is out of options hamstrings us AND any club that wants to trade for him. It would have to be a non-contender that wants to see what he can do with regular playing time for the rest of the season...

They'll DFA McGuire again and/or trade him if they can't sneak him through. They might give Kirk an extra long conditioning stint in AAA first though.

Why do they have another off day today?

Kinda suxx (for the fans)

Edit: Jays have 13 games in 14 days against good teams starting tomorrow. Maybe it's a good thing, though would have preferred the extra off day next week.

Send Jansen down and keep fapper & fatty.

That's a bold strategy, Cotton

Shapiro made a comment on T&F today about how they would be getting more production out of catcher eventually. You could ascribe that to Kirk or maybe just RTTM, but I sort of felt like the implication might have been Moreno.

Upcoming schedule - tough

I just checked the schedule thinking it would start to get easier but the next 13 games are:

- 3 (Houston), 3 (ChiW), 4 (Boston), 3 (Yankees)

Yeah

It's rough

Gotta play 500 over that stretch if possible

The Jays have the #1 and #3 most valuable position players in baseball at the moment.

Is Tatis’ defense really that bad?

Doesn't qualify for the above leaderboard. He's at 2.2 fWAR.

I remember when everyone was crapping on Bo's defense, Tatis actually had more errors at the time. I don't watch him enough to know whether how reflective of the true picture that is but he clearly has a ways you go defensively.

Like P2F said, Tatis doesn't qualify, but yes his defense has been horrendous. He made a million errors to start the season, I'm not sure if he's been better since but that'll ding your defense if you messed up a bunch of routine plays.

It's a small sample though, Tatis will regress towards being average to just below.

They're certainly paying him like he's going to be a good to very good SS and an elite bat...

Are they ever going to send Springer on rehab, pretty brutal start to his contract, a month and a half 4 games

He's going to miss the season for precautionary reasons

Just hilarious and also sad how all of the 100 IQ middle of the curve fans on here were absolutely right.

Yes, the team was insanely stupid for letting him return to play so quickly and letting him try to play through these injuries. Just insanely stupid. Can't even say "in hindsight" because, again, all of the plebs here saw it as it unfolded.

That's kind of the opposite of what usually happens. Usually the low performers and the geniuses get it right and us "mid-wits" are always wrong. Haven't you seen any of those IQ bell curve memes that go around?

I'm a 100 IQ midwit myself, and I don't remember getting the Springer thing right. I think I panicked post for a while that he'd be out 3 months... but when he came back, I thought he was just going to be back for the rest of the season.
