Biggio looked in visible discomfort in the outfield last night after his at-bat.

Hope it's nothing too serious and he recovers quickly for his sake.

#BlueJays also optioned Anthony Kay – that opens a spot in their rotation

When is Manoah scheduled to start in Buffalo next?

Injury Report

Eligible to return on Sat Jun 5 - 60-day IL.

Latest News

May 24, 1:15 PM EDT EDT

Hatch (elbow) is scheduled to make his second rehab start for Triple-A Buffalo on Wednesday, Mike Harrington of The Buffalo News reports.

Analysis

Hatch will presumably get the green light to work deeper into Wednesday's outing after he was capped at three innings and 43 pitches in his 2021 debut May 20 versus Worcester. The right-hander acquitted himself well in the outing, throwing 29 pitches for strikeouts while whiffing four and limiting Worcester to two runs (one earned) on three hits and no walks. Hatch will likely need one additional rehab start after Wednesday before Toronto decides whether he's fit to return from the 60-day injured list.

Saw this quick blurb on Fangraphs about Stripling. https://fantasy.fangraphs.com/waiver-wire-targets-week-8-2/

• Ross Stripling: He’s been extremely hittable (2.5 HR/9, 3.92) and has an ERA is over 7.00 with ERA estimators closer to 4.00. To show part of his struggles, here are the swinging strike and usage rates from his three non-fastballs

Pitch: Usage, SwStr%

Curve: 23%, 6%

Slider: 20%, 8%

Change: 11%, 25%

He’s throwing his best the least amount.

I checked his pitch mix today and he threw his Changeup 20% of the time, his curve 20% and his slider 12%.

who was our hitting coach in buffalo in 2019? Ever since Teoscar went down there he became a star. Kinda crazy.

Arguably he had the same effect on Gurriel too... except it seems Gurriel kinda forgot everything this year.

Reminder that Teoscar hasn't even hit arbitration yet.

He has. He's earning $4M this year and is in arb2 next year.

What a brutal week. If we can get healthier and Manoah and/or Pearson can add some value we can rebound.

I remember in 2015 going to watch a June 4 gm set in Houston, where we lost all 4 at Minute Maid and it was f***ing depressing. During the 4th loss, Shi Dividi was in the food line up beside me so we started talking about the series. He said teams are never as good as they look when rolling and never as bad as they look when cratering. Wiley sage that he is (sarcasm) was correct that year. Mind you we also picked up Revere, Tulo and Price. But it could happen with our core talent and pieces can be added. By the time i went to my 50th Bday in August in Anaheim to watch 3 games we were in 1st place and we smoked them 3 times.

(I'm giving myself a Buntoyo pep talk here to get ready for tonight and Manoah tomorrow). All starts today. New season.

on the starting pitcher front, Hatch may have more value than Manoah or Pearson as a starter this year

Just lost Phelps for the year. Would think the Jays will try and make a move for some bullpen help soon.

Rays managed to pull off a deal...

For sure you’re right. It definitely sucks starting the week 23-17 and falling to 23-23 by the end of the week. Especially since every single game was within reach.

This is still a good team, pitching staff is just battling through some injuries and general fatigue (and regression).

Damnit that blows big time. I'm starting to think it may be necessary to move Hatch into the bullpen again with the relievers continuously dropping like flies. If Manoah can keep his head above water the club may be better served to wait for Pearson to put things together at AAA to fill the remaining rotation spot.

Whatever...whoever. Bring it on. Any winning team always has major contributions from someone(or more) than few expected(Chris Collabello in 15, as 1 example. Brett Cecil's curve become completely unhittable for another). Hatch could be that guy. Hopefully there are more.

Vladdy is the best hitter in baseball right now. He has become the elite, MVP caliber hitter his tools said he could be.

But have you also noticed...

He is ELEVENTH out of all qualified position players with +2 BsR. Seriously. These are the other names in the top 15: Kiner-Falafa, Edman, Baez, Merrifield, Acuna, Nicky Lopez, Tim Anderson, Bogaerts, Chris Taylor, Newman, Betts, Hampson, Josh Rojas. Basically all highly athletic players with speed. LMAO the guy might be a plus baserunner for now at his size? Surely some randomness here but still... at the very least he seems to have completely murdered the boneheaded baserunning mistakes from his repertoire.

He is the SECOND best qualified 1B by UZR. His +8.6 UZR/150 trails only Max Muncy. This figure is higher than the 2020 end of season UZR/150 figures of Olson and Evan White, two highly-regarded defenders. This is a 70 grade UZR/150 for a 1B. This is completely supported by the eye test, too. Maybe +8 consistently is wishful but certainly the guy is a well above average 1B.

He is the total package. A big puma.

Also just tons of fun.
