Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Everything I’ve seen says 11:59pm EST is when the lockout starts. Hopefully that means there’s enough time between tonight and tomorrow morning to get signs/trades done with physicals before the deadline. Oh, cool. I thought it was 11:59am, hah!

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Found this interesting... A universal DH has to happen.
Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I love the 2 division alignment with 12 teams making the playoffs. Leads to a more balanced schedule and still rewards division winners. $240M Luxury tax only penalizes like a couple of teams... it should be a lot lower than that lol.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 2 divisions, both division winners get a bye to the DS, and 4 wild card teams. I actually like that better. It will lead to one uneven division in each league until expansion, and they'll need to adjust the schedule in 2023 to accommodate, but I'd be fine with that. A compromise to that would be keeping the 3 divisions, having the 2 division winners with the best records get a bye, and then having the 3rd division winner get to choose their opponent between 3 WC teams.

This is exactly what I’ve wanted for a few years now. Never really loved the sudden death wild card game but love the idea of a division winner picking their opponent in the first round.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 If that's the toughest of their demands, don't cancel baseball over this owners.
The Cats Ass Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 They should actually lower it to 200 or even 190. And then put a floor in at around 80M. The players would end up ahead.
jerb Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Jon Heyman @JonHeyman Reds are still fielding interest in Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle and Sonny Gray. Chance for a trade today.
Eat My Shatkins Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 Jon Heyman @JonHeyman Reds are still fielding interest in Luis Castillo, Tyler Mahle and Sonny Gray. Chance for a trade today. All three with just 2 years of control left, and all would likely cost as much as Berrios did to acquire. Maybe even more in the case of Castillo and Mahle. Of course, the Jays could lower that cost by quite a bit if they agreed to take on the rest of Moustakas contract.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 I wonder if the Jays could take Votto of their hands to cut down on the prospects going back for Castillo.

Possibly, but you know what the owners really want is a hard cap rather than a luxury tax, which means the players would then also want a salary floor.... so raising the luxury tax threshold is what the players propose as some middle ground.

I am tired of the posers like the Marlins making millions of TV revenue yearly, and putting none of it back into roster improvement. Also, universal DH please. I would actually love, love love to see a radically expanded playoff format. A lot of the small market teams like Pittsburgh really will never have a chance otherwise. And then September ball becomes more of a crazy roller coaster ride.

They know they'll never have to pay it out ... no chance Vlad would ever get that kind of deal in any contract he signs.

They know they'll never have to pay it out ... no chance Vlad would ever get that kind of deal in any contract he signs. If he ever plays 150 games they might have to pay it out... In fact I think they'd be happy to pay it out. I'd sign Vlad to a 10 year 200 million dollar contract with double that bonus structure. I think. It would kind of work wouldn't it? If he is MVP caliber he gets 40 million, if he is an all star 30 million, if he gets fat again and hits ground balls he still gets 20 million but at least you save half the money...
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 1, 2021 Posted December 1, 2021 rip 7 minutes - jesus f***. This negotiation ******** is f***ing stupid. Lock the door and try to resolve something like humans instead of using tactics to get what you want.

Nobody ever negotiates in good faith until they're up against a deadline of losing games. At least this is in the offseason instead of June.
