Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Taijuan Walker's outing today 0.1 IP, 4 H, 6 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 0 K's ... yikes!
Benito Verified Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Just saw Willy Adames' stats since trade. In 50 games, he has a .941 ops, and has put up 2.7 war. TB might finally have lost a trade. Time will tell.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 For f*** sakes - 2 people shot outside of the Washington/SD game tonight. Game postponed. C'mon 'Merica. And the guys with the $500k MVP parlay of DeGrom and Ohtani still haven't taken the $190k payout

Benito Verified Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Good one. SD also got Tommy Pham in that trade.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Good one. SD also got Tommy Pham in that trade. But overall they have had a bad roster crunch and want to get the prospects into the lineup so they will be taking more L's over the next few years.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 But overall they have had a bad roster crunch and want to get the prospects into the lineup so they will be taking more L's over the next few years. Teams should get better at realizing when Tampa Bay doesn't have all that much leverage during these roster crunches.

TB might finally have lost a trade. Time will tell. It was apparently a well known secret that Adames had significant issues picking the ball up at the Trop. His career home and away splits: Home - 84 wRC+ Away - 135 wRC+ It's nice to see Tampa lose a trade again but this just seems like one of those instances where there really was nothing they could do about it. It's always a cliche but Adames legitimately needed a change of scenery it appears.

TB might finally have lost a trade. Time will tell. The Rays couldn't get these numbers out of Adames. He was on the record as saying that he literally couldn't see pitches at the Trop ever since they installed the new lights. https://www.tampabay.com/sports/rays/2020/09/11/rays-willy-adames-trying-glasses-to-boost-home-numbers/ His stats since the trade are nearly identical to his road splits prior to the trade. This was a classic case of a player being more valuable for every other team in the league than he was for the Rays. Edit: Oops. Benito Verified Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 All good. Thanks for the insight from both. I wasn't aware of it. It's crazy how wide his road/home splits are once I looked. Good for Brewers for capitalizing.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 Lol @Taijuan Walker Rojas blew a gasket, lol. That'll cost him some dough.
TwistedLogic Old-Timey Member Posted July 18, 2021 Posted July 18, 2021 I think Juan Soto will be okay. He was one guy I really thought the home run derby could help. You always hear about the derby messing people's swings up but Soto has had atrocious launch angles all year and it felt like consistently lifting the ball at the derby could maybe unlock something for him. He's looked a lot better since the break.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Arroyo hurt his groin on that stretch. Idiot, lol.

Olerud363 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 HeÂ’s been looking good ever since June no? Just had a REALLLY bad/slow first couple months. I think he had an injury and missed the first two weeks then a bad May. However it probably is mostly random. He actually has the same problems with ground balls Vlad had until this year. However Soto's plate discipline is so insane he can still be the best hitter in the league with a 50% ground ball rate. If you saw Soto in the home run contest or ever taken a look at the video of his home runs you know that his raw power is elite. It will be scary if he can lower the ground ball rate like Vlad has, his plate discipline right now is a level above Vlad's.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 MLB Hoping To Return To Nine-Inning Doubleheaders, Modified Extra-Inning Rules In 2022 • By Anthony Franco TODAY: The automatic runner rule in extra innings might be modified rather than removed, USA Today’s Bob Nightengale writes. The rule could be altered so that the auto runner wouldn’t become part of the game until the 11th or 12th inning, with the first extra frame or two played until regular rules. July 13: “I don’t think seven-inning doubleheaders are going to be part of our future going forward,” MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred told reporters (including ESPN.com’s Jeff Passan and MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand) today. Additionally, Manfred also suggested that the league could do away with the modified extra-innings rule that saw a runner automatically placed on second base at the start of each extra frame.

Yeah someone mentioned that here, seems like solid compromise.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Yeah someone mentioned that here, seems like solid compromise. Yeah I'm good with 2-3 nornal innings before adding the runner That's like having normal a normal hockey OT period before resorting to a shootout
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 That rarely happens save for the first few weeks, but I'm sure the players don't mind the double dippers, I didn't mind having to see your team not burn through a billion relievers in a day. I don't mind that rule, not a fan of the guy on 2nd, maybe pick an arbitrary inning like the 11th inning would make sense. It's all moot now sounds like those rules are out the window. Play Ball... Yeah someone mentioned that here, seems like solid compromise. ...
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Yeah I'm good with 2-3 nornal innings before adding the runner That's like having normal a normal hockey OT period before resorting to a shootout No it isn't. It's like having a normal hockey OT period before dropping down to 3 on 3 or something. The runner on 2nd rule needs to completely go away. Having a tie after the 12th would be far superior to this nonsense.
intentional wok Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 I loathe the auto-runner in any scenario. It really does need to be gone. I understand they want to keep games from going very long, but I'd rather see an anti-climactic tie than meddlesome nonsense. That said, I have no issue with 7-inning double-headers. THAT's the change I would keep, not the automatic runner (made even worse by these terrible RP-switching limitations). Such, such ********.
Benito Verified Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 The thing about 7 inning games is, what if a historic game happens to be in development? Perfect games, 20 SO pitching record, 4 hr games, etc. I think as baseball/sports fans, we all hope to be witness to these historic game events. Imagine a pitcher on pace to break the 20 SO game record, but oops sorry, 7 innings in the books. Game over. Next time.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted July 19, 2021 Posted July 19, 2021 Ben Zobrist story is pretty funny. Wife is mad and wants an extra $4m in the divorce because he got depressed and didn’t want to play when he found out she was banging their pastor lol
