I’d prefer a bridge to jump off of but yes I agree

Tom Brady drives them absolutely insane and I love it.

Going to guess a 2/30 year deal but the Dodgers throwing in a 3rd year to bring down the AAV. It's not even fair how stacked stacked Dodgers are...

Third baseman Justin Turner’s deal with the Los Angeles Dodgers is for two years and more than $30 million, sources tell ESPN.

Are the underlying metrics predicting another random cy young season coming up?

We're going to regret not signing Paxton.

Woof, only 8.5M for Paxton. Teams must think he's cooked

Wtff... we signed a guy who looked toast last year too for 8 million (Ray). Can't believe he went for only that much man.

Paxton health concerns far eclipse any such concerns for Ray.

Excuse my ignorance but didn't we sign Yates who is coming off similar concerns? How are we sure Yates will bounce back and Paxton can't do the same? 2020 seems like an outlier for a lot of players so it's truly hard to live and die off that weird season.

Yates doesn't really have similar concerns. Your ignorance is noted but not excused.

Loll I meant Yates is coming off surgery which we're magically hoping will fix his issues last year but then trash Paxton who also dealt with stuff...

- Different workload for starters than relievers

- Paxtons velo was way down while Yates was not

- Yates had elbow surgery last summer and presumably has rehabbed while Paxton had spinal surgery last offseason and hasn't looked the same since

- Paxton threw for a handful of teams and no one was willing to give him more than 1/8

The report from his bullpen session which he threw in front of teams was that he "reached" 94.. likely he was still sitting 91-93. Used to sit 96. He could just be done, if his arm has caught up to him, the velo train doesn't last forever.

Just some ideas

Now that's an awesome reply. Thanks for the info! I was under the impression his bullpen session was good but I guess I had it wrong.

Maybe? I just saw the rotowire news update on his Fangraphs page. Heyman apparently said he "reached 94 MPH". That doesn't sound too great to me, but I could be corrected.

Pitchers didn't have proper time to ramp up last year with the stop and start and short summer camp. Putting too much stock into Velo for 20 innings under the circumstances is ridiculous. Pitchers ramp up to spring training. They don't throw max velocity in January. I fully expect Paxton's velocity to be up from last year. 8.5 mil was a gamble worth taking. I would have rather taking a shot on Paxton who was truly elite once vs Chatwood and Matz who were never elite.

Our rotation is gross. There are 2 options left to improve that rotation in free agency. I'm starting to think the Jays won't sign anyone else.

20 innings before he was shutdown with a forearm flexor strain after coming off an offseason with a major spinal surgery... lol. I mean he could bounce back. I wouldn't say I "fully expect" his velo to be back.
