7 inning double headers and extra inning gimmicks will be back. This is the most disgusting thing the league has done in my lifetime. It's very disheartening to lose my favourite aspect of baseball and all of the great memories that come with it.

My condolences. Cherish those memories!

This is a you love it or hate it thing. Personally I love the extra inning rules. I feel for you though. I wonder what the percentage would be of people who like it and those who don't. Probably 50/50. Maybe someone should put a poll up.

So with expanded playoffs to 7 we make the playoffs. With 5 teams we miss. Who doesn't want expanded playoffs! lol.

I don't. But I accept them as an inevitability.

Jonathan Villar deal with Mets with MLB deal. Expected to fill super utility role.

I don't think Toronto is quite done adding talent. I also don't buy some of the projections ahead of them.

Yankees are a pretty risky team so while they are the projected favourite the error bars on that projection are huge. Kluber, Taillon, Severino, Stanton have pretty big non-contribution risks. The AL East should be a pretty close three team race... I think Toronto will be better than Cleveland and the Angels.

I really hope we can take the division. The 1 game playoff sucks m, especially because I can see it being TOR/TB again, which scares me.

The Yankees rotation is basically Cole and then 6 glass cannons. There's a very real chance that it implodes and Toronto can just ride Big Diesel Roark to the crown. Muahahahahaha

MIN and CLE are better than the White Sox? Braves are a 4th place team? I mean that's all possible, but still interesting.

Man - seeing those standings makes me miss baseball. Let's get Spring Training going!

Agree. Especially the extra inning gimmicks. There is nothing more character building then when your favorite team loses a 19 inning game on the west coast.

A couple of my favorite memories the last few years.

2014 - some crazy game that was 5-2 Detroit I think in the 9th. Jays tie it somehow goes to the 18th or 19th. I love the 14th inning stretch. A couple of crazy replays. Day game but ends as it is getting dark (in August)

2016 -crazy Canada day game. Gibby and EE kicked out early? Or something like that. I think "tomorrows" starter goes 7 innings for Cleveland. Goins and Barney I think go for the Jays. lol. Jays lose but win the next two.

I hope it is just for 1 more year until the COVID situaiton is more clear.

I would give up a playoff year for a theoretical 85 win team, in exchange for

a) a better chance for the 90 win team to make noise and only have to win 1 wild card game.

B) the theoretical 97 win team of someday down the road not having to play a 3 game series or some crap against Tampa Bay.

If there's no fallout from the Superbowl (I predict there won't be much of one) it should open up other spots to allowing more fans.

Wouldn't that be something haha. Hopefully be then we have Ryu, Ace Nate, and 1 of Ray/Matz/Trade/Stripling/Call-up who's good enough to be a 3rd playoff SP.

If you've ever thought spring training games are too long, you're in for a treat.

* Games between 2/27-3/13 can be played as 5- or 7-inning games, as long as the managers agree.

* Games on or after 3/14 will be scheduled as 9 innings but managers can agree to shorten to 7.

At least we won't have to face Snell...

Yeah their rotation could be anywhere from amazing to just OK

It's the very definition of high risk high reward

But who are we to talk? We probably have the worst rotation amongst all the serious contenders in baseball. If not the worst, we're close to it lol.

That's also true

At least they have one bona fide reliable stud

And their biggest gambles (Taillon and Kluber) have bigger upsides then ours

Will take some offense and some luck to beat the Yanks this year

New ball numbers

Degrom 18-11 1.34

McNeil .320 2 56 5 WAR

Bichette .301 19 80

Vlad .288 21 82 (not bad with new ball)

Biggio .232 9 50 101 walks still (still not bad, Kieth Law 'can't hit fastball')

Judge .250 35 110 (home run crown)

Pujols .190 2 34

Trout .282 33 90 10 WAR (yeah those numbers really good with new dead ball)

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Tanner Roark

14-8 3.44 210 innings 19 homers, 188 ks

That is just an average pitcher though with new ball

Angels Sign Shohei Ohtani To Two-Year Extension, Avoid Arbitration

By Mark Polishuk | February 8, 2021 at 2:44pm CDT

The Angels have announced a two-year, $8.5MM contract extension with pitcher/designated hitter Shohei Ohtani. The deal will keep the two sides from an arbitration hearing, after they failed to reach an agreement on Ohtani’s 2021 salary prior to the arb deadline. Jeff Fletcher of the Orange County Register (Twitter link) reports that Ohtani will earn $3MM in 2021 and $5.5MM in 2022.

Will deadening the ball increase contact rates? If hrs are now warning track flyouts the game gets less exciting not more

IF the rise in strikeouts has been partly because players are willing to trade strikeouts for homers

AND IF the ball deadining has a significant negative effect on flyball distance

THEN the answer is yes. Players with middling power will return to more traditional, contact-oriented approaches AND/OR teams will give playing time to more traditional, contact-oriented hitters.

We will see.

You won't see a sudden change though. And if most of the rise in K's is due to pitch design and increased velocity then there might not be a big or appreciable change whatsoever.
