This is what people wanted to happen for AA after 2015 lol.

Im glad we got Beeston out, that was much needed. His stance on Boras clients was dumn.

If AA chose to leave because he didn’t want to work with Shapiro then fine, his choice.

Oh well, we're much better off now.

Usually when a team gets a new CEO/President they want to hire their own guys. I'm assuming AA was thinking that and bounced.

Archer back with the Rays. One year, $6.5m.

Poor Pirates.

I was hoping we'd get Archer. Now that he went back to the Rays I'm even more convinced..lol.

Exactly

Watch him put up 170 quality innings for Tampa

He'll pitch well until the trade deadline, then get flipped for three unranked prospects--two of which will go on to become all-stars.

TODAY: The Angels announced that Mickey Callaway has been suspended. According to Alden Gonzalez of ESPN, Callaway “has denied any wrongdoing,” thus preventing him from being fired without an investigation.

Doubtful as the pure odds say otherwise. The track record of pitchers coming back from thoracic outlet syndrome surgery and either pitching significant innings or pitching well is grim.

I’m kind of surprised he got $6.5M.

Why would they care about innings? Or...

Analytics. Pretty sure they've already mapped out how many innings he will pitch the entire season.

that's not true. It's an incredibly rare issue for pitchers, so there isn't even a big sample size. A study done on 14 indicated players who came back were basically just as good after the procedure as they were before. If one can assume that Archer's problems were in part due to pain he was dealing with and he got it taken care of and is healthy, he could be an extremely good pick up.

Now that's interesting. Thanks.

So does Bauer sign before or after spring training report dates? I'm guessing after!

My guess is that he'll be a Met or Angel by the end of the week. My odds based on 0 knowledge is 70% Mets, 29% Angels, 1% Jays lol.

That article states a "study in 2017" which it doesn't even properly cite. It's seems to be more of an in-depth analysis of the medical aspect of TOS as opposed to detailing the actual performances.

There's been 17 pitchers who fall under an acceptable age deviation as Archer who got the surgery (age 27+, and I'm being generous giving him the benefit of the doubt comparing him to 27-30 year olds). 5 of them didn't pitch a single inning in the majors after the surgery (~30%). When you widdle it down Age 31 or older, which is the quartile Archer belongs to:

Age 31 or older (7 pitchers):

- 95 FIP- before vs. 113 FIP- after surgery

- 4/7 of them pitched less than 50 innings for the rest of their careers

So most either suffered a noticeable decline in production or they pitched very little the rest of their careers, or both. Josh Beckett and Kenny Rogers were the only ones you can only really make a case for that were the same before/after, and Beckett only lasted 100 innings while Kenny Rogers seems like an extreme anomaly.

If you're age 22-26, it seems like you have a good shot of bouncing back to some extent, but age 27+ seems like you're in the dead zone.

What do you think the Orioles do with Chris Davis? He has two years left. Do they keep running him out every few days hoping he will at some point provide positive WAR? Seeing him play now he looks like a guy that has totally given up. He doesn't even hit the Jays well, anymore. And that has been money his whole career.

In other bad 1B signed to bad contracts, Pujols only has one more year left :)

They should buy him out and put him out of his misery

But they're the Orioloes so they won't do the smart thing

O's are hoping he finds baseball so embarrassing at some point that he retires and gives up the money.

Welll, by “buy out” they’d have to pay him in full. Can’t do the NBA thing

I think there was prob some hope of that at some point but that light has all but been extinguished

If he’s made it this far he clearly has no shame...or not enough to give up that $$. Can’t really blame him

Yes. There has been some longform journalism on this. It seems like Davis is determined to play out the contract and collect his dough.

The union was at some point probably leaning on him pretty heavily to keep playing.

I imagine the relationship between David and the O's is completely broken at this point. I wonder if he would even quit if they offered him like, 95 cents on the dollar.
