Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Sign EE to a minor league deal, injury depth If the NL gets the DH, i think there's a starting spot for him somewhere. His 2019 numbers were pretty damn good. Think we can light most 2020 numbers on fire.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Not condoning this at all but I think it's come to the point where Men need to stop hoping for one night flings. It will just get you in trouble lol.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Yeah, the timing of this is like "GET HIM OUT SO BAUER WILL COME PLAY!" It honestly feels like that Wow
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Wish there was a spot for him here but Tellez seems to have his role already and also provides us a left handed bat. BTW... it's crazy that Edwin can reach 500 HRs considering the wasted years to begin his career. I don't see it happening in 2 years at all though. No He won't get enough playing time Pujols got to rack them up because Angels

glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 So wait... does that mean there are no expanded playoffs this year? Yes, it means the normal rules apply (10 team playoffs, DH in the NL). Not sure about the extra inning rule, they might end up doing that anyway (they should). The players had incentive to agree to expanded playoffs in 2020 since it was a 60 game season and their salaries were prorated, so the expanded playoffs made sense financially for everyone involved, but Manfred can't unilaterally postpone the season like last year, so the players have the leverage. I've said before that I like the expanded playoffs, but I think I am changing my mind on that, especially after this winter when damn near 98% of owners sat on their asses and did nothing. Players are absolutely right; if you put more teams in, owners (who have historically found every way possible to depress player salaries) will have less incentive to spend money. It should help the sport if more high profile players are getting national spotlight during the playoffs, so that's one benefit of expanded play, but that's really it. With that said, keep the extra inning rule and put the DH in the NL.

I don't care how many games the season is, how many teams use the DH, or how many teams make the playoffs as long as they scrap the extra innings gimmick permanently. It is hands down the stupidest gimmick I have ever seen in any sport. It disgusts me when the runner trots out to second, I can't even watch.

It's not just about the players getting more spotlight in the playoffs, the fans in most markets have a reason to give a s*** for longer parts of the season. Expanded playoffs let's 80% of teams and fans think they have a chance. Usually, 50% of fans know they have 0 chance at the playoffs with like a 100 games left. Outside of the known douchebag teams, most teams are willing to invest when there’s ROI...like Tor

The owners didn't sit on their asses this winter because of expanded playoffs last year. I highly doubt the MLBPA actually believes what they're spewing, they just want to keep every shred of leverage they have going into the negotiations next winter. I kinda wish the MLB and MLBPA would just shut down the game this year, work it out, and come back next year with a long-term agreement so we don't have to worry about this s*** for another 10 years. This year is going to be a mess anyway.

Trotting out a runner to 2nd base seems ridiculous to you. I just see it as something that both teams are playing by the same rules, it adds some strategy and shortens the games saving pitchers arms. Although, I wouldn't want it for the playoffs I absolutely love it for the regular season. As it stands, we have no DH in the national league, no expanded playoffs and extra innings will be revert back to no runner at 2nd. The people afraid of change will be very happy!

These guys in suits, they should be working on a new deal and get it worked out throughout the season and next winter, regardless of when they play. You a sadist bro, f*** that?!

A common sense approach. Let's get a deal done a year in advance to help address issues that will add additional revenues to the industry which benefits both sides for 2021 and beyond. Instead, lets not address depressed revenues in 2021 and see owners lose money for a 2nd straight year. I wonder if that causes a bigger fight for 2022. The 2 trains are headed towards each other and the outcome is inevitable. Pride and greed is destroying both sides.

If you want the casuals then you need to give them a reason to stay tuned... I don't necessarily disagree with that, it's part of the reason I was in favor of expanded playoffs, but it really comes down to how teams value those extra post season spots. If owners realize that they could be around .500 and contend for one of those spots, and it drives down their motivation to spend (because they don't have to), then it may not have the impact on fan engagement that it should have in theory. Maybe fans will be engaged to watch a 78-82 win team contend for a WC spot the first time, but if it happens consistently, then eventually it's going to be old hat and diminishing returns. I guess we will need to see a few years of sample size to determine whether expanded playoffs 1) increases regular season attendance due to more teams in contention, 2) increases regular season TV numbers, 3) gives more owners an incentive to try to improve their teams.

This year is going to be a mess anyway. The MLBPA was going to reject any offer MLB gave them, but that doesn't mean they don't believe what they are spewing. Expanded playoffs disproportionately helps owners over players. If they feel owners would lose motivation to spend if it became a lot easier to contend for a playoff spot, then they may not be wrong. Just to clarify, I personally don't care about either side. Both are unlikable and bad for the sport.

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 2, 2021 Posted February 2, 2021 Shutting down another year of baseball for a labor dispute would be league suicide especially coming off a 60 game season. It would be the 94 season X 50 as far as negative fan blowback.... Not only no, but HELL NO!
