Tommy Lasorda dead.

I remember as a kid I was on vacation in Montreal, the drinking age back then in Quebec was 18 so me and a bunch of buddies hit up Chez Paree strip joint downtown Montreal.

Guess who was there, Lasorda along with Kirk Gibson and a few other players I didnt recognize.

Ah the good old days. RIP

No. It. Did. Not.

"The Mets were willing to offer him a five-year deal for a bit less than $150 million, sources told Martino."

See the differences?

It sounds like the Mets didn't even make an offer and they were only willing to go just shy of $150M.

As far as I remember seeing, Martino is the only one who's mentioned the offer totals for both teams. He may be pulling them out of his ass, or it's also possible the Jays have offered something like 4/115 and he only knew the total and assumed the term.

It seems obvious to me that Bauer brought this up the year before his contract year to see if MLB would do anything to stop it. When they didn't do anything, there was no real reason not to use it himself, especially in a contract year.

Pretty smart, actually.

I wonder if this plays into teams decisions to sign him or not. If MLB does crack down on substances, are you getting the 2019 version? Do teams know which pitchers are using it? do they know which pitchers can still dominate without it? Does it benefit some more than others? or is everyone using it and thus there will just be a massive adjustment league wide.

This s*** is complicated.

Jim Bowden lists each teams most under rated prospect

Toronto Blue Jays

Leonardo Jimenez, 2B/SS

Age: 19 B: R T: R HT: 5-11 WT: 165

Scouting grades:

HIT: 50 PWR: 40 RUN: 55 ARM: 55 FLD: 55

Jimenez slashed .294/.372/.371 in 2019 at both Lansing of the Midwest League and Bluefield of the Appalachian League with 13 doubles in 251 plate appearance. He has played second base and shortstop and plays them both above average, but he profiles as an everyday second baseman when fully developed. He’s fundamentally sound who does everything average or above outside of his power tool. His short, compact swing is consistent and repeatable, which will lead to very few slumps. He sprays the ball all over the field, owning the gaps with line drives. He has the instincts and intellect to overachieve.

The tags for that article again point to Martino (literally, right at the bottom). I'm not saying he's wrong, just that (as far as I can tell) we only have one single source for all the contract discussion, and one who seems to only have ties to the Mets front office rather than any of Springer's reps. Heck, the article does not state that the Jays offer was 5 years, only the contract total. He's probably correct, but we'd be stupid to assume it.

You said "... Martino is the only one who's mentioned the offer totals for both teams..."

My point was that Martino's article doesn't even say the Mets made an offer.

I don't disagree with you that he might not be right about the Jays' offer.

Got it. I misunderstood your point of contention.

Did he die or pass away?

The nerd in me loves this fact.

The Dodgers had two, count em, two managers from 1954 to 1996.

That just goes to show there are two ways to skin a cat.

Alston defined stoicism, while Lasorda wore his emotions on his sleeve. Loved them both.

RIP Tommy.

I think that little train headed up that steep hill was saying," I think I can, I think I can!" not "f*** it, that hill looks like a bitch, I'll never get to the top!"

If you're so confident Springer isn't going to come to the Jays, where is he going to land?

A team based in the US.

Look, I want him signed probably as much as anyone, I am using reverse psychology to the baseball gods when I say "The Jays have a 0% chance of signing Springer".

It said right in the article the Mets had been willing to off a 5 year deal for somewhat less than 150 million. What does somewhat less mean? 5 mil, 20 mil or 50 mil. Media speak. I wish players would just sign so we don't have to read ambiguous media reports.

Why does every baseball related have to be so damn slow. They really need to find ways to speed up the sport in all ways lol.

Schwarber 1 and 10 to the Nationals. I thought they said no DH in the national league this year..lol.

Just seems high for what he brings to the table. Even Grossman only got 5/yr. I can't imagine Rosario is asking for a whole lot more, seems like a better choice. But I wouldn't mind adding Rosario's bat to our lineup, he's good for 25hrs.

So this guy apparently has real sources within the Cubs and he tweeted this...

Bryant/Contreras/Baez trade?

Well... it won't involve us I'm betting lol

Even if its not us, buyers using the trade market to fill out their roster is inherently better for us when it comes to free agency.

I guess they're moving Soto to RF to make room for Shwarber in left if need be

Bryant/Contreras/Baez trade?

I could very much see Toronto acquiring Bryant now that some dominoes have been falling.

- If the Jays were truly the runner up on Lindor then we know they can/will take on the salary

- Bryant is a similar asset to Lindor (star with one year of expensive control) but he arguably fits the Jays roster better since 3B is the hole

- Bryant will cost less because he's an inferior player to Lindor, but he still has big upside for a 2021 push

- The Jays' offer for Lindor was apparently more prospect / long-term focused than the Mets' offer. The Cubs accepted a very long-term package from the Padres for Darvish so they are looking way down the road.

It's like the responsible alternative to acquiring Lindor. You pay less for an inferior talent, but the projected 2021 impact isn't vastly different.

Interestingly, Kyle Hendricks could be thrown in like Carrasco was with Lindor.

Also, taking on Heyward's remaining 3 years and $65M is a creative option for reducing the prospect cost. I know it's way out there but swapping Grichuk for Heyward in the deal adds only $34M in team salary from 2021 through 2023 and Heyward fits the Jays' roster better than Grichuk right now. Better CF and a LHB so easier to platoon in a corner with someone.

1/10 for Schwarber's a nice get, Cubs are dumb. Lets get Bryant from them.

Amd Kyle Hendricks

I want both Hendrick's
