EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 Did Alford clear waivers? I thought we were supposed to have heard something by now The Blue Jays have 7 days from the date he was DFA ed to trade the player if unsuccessful he goes on waivers so any team can claim him for nothing. Rumors has it that if a trade isn't successful and goes on waivers he could be claimed by the Detroit Tigers.

Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 http://m.mlb.com/glossary/transactions/designate-for-assignment When a player's contract is designated for assignment -- often abbreviated "DFA" -- that player is immediately removed from his club's 40-man roster. Within seven days of the transaction (had been 10 days under the 2012-16 Collective Bargaining Agreement), the player can either be traded or placed on irrevocable outright waivers.
Laika Community Moderator Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 So what was all that stuff about 72 hours they were saying on tv If a player gets put on waivers the other teams have 72 hours to submit a claim. They were confusing being DFA'd with being waived.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 26, 2020 Posted August 26, 2020 So what was all that stuff about 72 hours they were saying on tv If the Blue Jays can't find a trade for him after the 7 days the he goes on waivers all teams have 72 hours to put in their claim. If more than one team claims him he goes to the team with the worst record. After 72 hours if nobody claims him he now has cleared waivers and still is the property of the Blue Jays and can be demoted to the minors.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Man, I wish Alford was even like 20% better at hitting...

BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Pirates are absolutely terrible. Alford will have a chance to win himself a job there.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Looks like the Pirates CF right now is a washed Jarrod Dyson, so Alford should get a chance to play. Wish him all the best.

What happened to Josh Bell, Reynolds, Polanco, Frasier. All of them have completely fell off a cliff. Musgrove and Keller have been f***ing awful too.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Good for Alford he legit went to a place he can play everyday in CF for like 30 games.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Watch him set the world on fire and start catching up to every fastball thrown his way. He needs playing time and still needs to make some adjustments. He's now in place where if he shows a little promise he can get continued playing time next year. If he's going to develop he needs at bats, and he a lot of developing to do with the bat...lol. I wish him luck. Super nice dude.

Musgrove with just three starts before going on the IL with a tricep injury, can't help but wonder if the injury was nagging him further back than that last start.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted August 27, 2020 Posted August 27, 2020 Musgrove with just three starts before going on the IL with a tricep injury, can't help but wonder if the injury was nagging him further back than that last start. For sure, even without knowing the injury prior to pain, it's quite obvious in many cases. It's why I worry about Borucki recently with command and about a 2-3 MPH dip in his FB, I hope he was just used too much in the pen, to that effect. He's been rested well now, we'll see tomorrow.
EastCoaster Verified Member Posted August 29, 2020 Posted August 29, 2020 Anthony Alford has been claimed off waivers by the Pittsburgh Pirates this will give him a second chance in the big league. Depending on the upcoming trade deadline his playing time could be substantial especially if one of their outfielder is involved in a trade. The Pirates own the worst record in baseball so Alford is automatically became their claim.

So Boston passed before Pittsburgh had the chance. Edited August 29, 2020 by Deadpool I was slightly incorrect, and that cannot stand.

It's has nothing to do with either league it's an MLB agreement the AL and NL have the same bargaining agreement it states the team with the worst winning record has priority over the claim. The Pittsburgh Pirates has the worst record in the MLB.

The Pittsburgh Pirates has the worst record in the MLB. You're both wrong. I think. Alford would have went unclaimed by the entire AL. • When a player is on waivers, other teams can submit a claim. If more than one team does, those in the same league as that player's team get first priority, starting with the club with the worst record on the day of the claim. Then, the priority moves to the other league, starting with the worst record. For example, if a National League team puts a player on waivers, the NL team with the worst record gets the first shot at him, and the last-place American League club would be right behind the top NL club.

Y'know what? What you said is what I thought, but then I misread the rule you posted (I read it as Last-place American League club would be right behind the [last] NL club. Dammit, I was right and then tricked myself into being wrong, but still not as wrong as EastCoaster You are correct that all the AL teams had to pass on him first. That'll teach me not to trust the fact that I'm always right!
