Would it surprise people to know that so far this season, Vlad and Varsho have the same average sprint speed?

 

Bo is up to 27.8 ft/s from 27.1 last season

 

Vlad is up to 27.1 ft/s from 26.4 last season

 

Varsho is down from 28.1 to 27.1, though his # of competitive runs is still in a small sample alert. His range in the OF and OAA is 99th % so I think his baserunning speed is just a matter of not really having chances to push it.

 

Fastest Jays are Clement, just edging out KK, with 28.9 to 28.8, IKF 27.9, Bo 27.8, Springer and Biggio 27.4

 

Vlad and Varsho both 27.1

 

Turner and Kirk are the only below average runners with enough chances to qualify. Obviously we know Vogelbach is slow. Schneider is probably right around average. Jansen will be either average or slightly below

I’ve only been watching for 20-25 years so hard for me to say but is Guerrero one of the biggest let downs in Blue Jay history? The gap between expectations and performance seems large. What might be equally disappointing is this franchise has no idea how to fix him, clearly. I thought this team was supposed to be cutting edge?

Easily the biggest disappointment although so far but he's only 25 so there's still time

One way to look at it is that at age 18, 19, and 22 he was among the 10 greatest hitters of all time at that age now at 25 he is below average and getting worse each year.

 

I doubt we will ever see a Blue Jays player perform like Vlad did through age 22. He was a once in a life time generational talent that has become a replacement player and seemingly hasn't been able to fix it for 2 years. We have lost the one chance this franchise had at a Frank Thomas/Albert Pujols level talent and will likely never see it again.

 

I'd compare him to John Olerud, but Olerud wasn't ever bad at all just vastly under-appreciated. Roughly speaking there are parallels, early good but not great seasons, one big amazing year, unable to repeat.

 

Olerud got out of it by being sat for Jacob Brumfield then essentially released (traded for very little), then 'fixed' by the Mets. The same will likely happen to Vlad this winter.

 

The ultimate kick in the nuts will be when the new team fixes him.

 

Vladimir Guerrero has failed for us. It is over. Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox, Atlanta Braves or who-ever manages to fix him. Vladdy will still only be 26 and bring generational joy and happiness to your fanbase.

I don't think so. Snider probably takes the steak there. The expectations for Lawrie and Hinske after their rookie seasons were pretty high too.

I think it's Vlad over Snider. Snider was an elite prospect, but like a regular top-10 type. Vlad was expected to be the next Pujols. After his 2021 people on the forum were saying thy wouldn't trade him for Acuna Jr. or Soto, and that was defensible. He was actually a 22-year old Pujols, and had just done it for a full season at the major league level. HoF track. And then it just evaporated.
