This is really the problem with the award. If Mike Trout is the best player in the AL every year, he should win the MVP every year. I don't see why the manager of the year needs to be from some upstart team - it should be perfectly valid to just award the managers of strong teams that were expected to be good, if the manager did a good job.

Of course the main problem is that it's very hard (impossible) to tease out the actual influence any given manager is having.

Montoyo was under fire all year long and made a number of stupid decisions though so this nomination seems completely blind to that information.

But from who was he under fire besides this forum and other internet arm-chair manager groups?

I don't think he deserves the nomination, but I guess we are supposed to be happy that they threw us a few scraps (Buntoyo for Manager of the Year and (LOL) Gurriel for Gold Glove)!

There was a change.org petition half way through the season to replace Montoyo. It got 55 million signatures.

I'm hoping he gets drunk enough to forget it ever happened.

Seriously!? That's pretty harsh dude!

I think Buck as the color man with Dan Shulman is quite tolerable. It reminds me of Jerry Remy on the Red Sox telecasts.

Are you sure 55 million!!?? - there are less than 40 million people in all of Canada and how many others would give s hit about who is managing the Jays?. Are you sure you didn't mean 55 thousand ?

You are a sad little man. I, on the other hand, am an agnostic and do not have the audacity to denigrate that which I can not confirm or disprove. By the way, I hear there is strong evidence that the world is flat.

ETA: the word is pray NOT prey. what a f***ing moron!

Blue Jays: Charlie Montoyo is entering the last guaranteed year of his original three-year contract, though the Jays hold a club option on Montoyo’s services for 2022. That option could be exercised to give Montoyo a bit more security as a reward for leading Toronto to the playoffs last year, though expectations are certainly higher for the 2021 team. It should also be noted that there hasn’t yet been any official confirmation that president/CEO Mark Shapiro has signed a new contract with the team after his five-year deal ran out after last season, but last October, Shapiro seemed to imply that a new deal was all but complete.

1. Move back to Buffalo

2. Keep Montoyo in Dunedin

Everyone who's going to Buffalo take a step forward.

Charlie, take a step back.

They picked up his option for next year before they had to. None of the decisions in today's game made any sense in regards to modern game day theory. It's not worth getting worked up about though. He's not going anywhere. He does what he's told.

Do you actually think that the front office is giving Charlie directions to bunt with two strikes in extra innings? Let's give them a little more credit than that.

Charlie Montoyo is destined for the Korean Baseball Organization. He's not a big league manager.

I'd be perfectly fine if he was our bench coach but goddamit I want a better manager

Just flip the roles of John Schneider and Montoyo and we're gold.

To be fair, they can tell him to stop it, it's cringe worthy.

Bump..Montoyo sucks. I just stabbed and pissed on a teddy bear in protest.

That's a fine protest.
