Hey great, I've really been looking forward to this one.

How do you guys factor in defense? Do any of you actually scout the defense or do you mostly rely on other sources for that?

Largely just rely on other sources and reports.

I'd have Kirk around #8

Who would you have ahead of him? The only guy I could see being defensible is Martinez, but Kirk had a better offensive season in a higher level.

Martinez, Manoah, Moreno.

Martinez, Manoah, Moreno.

Ehh, I guess Manoah could also be defensible, but he's also a pitching prospect, in the low minors, college draftee be damned. I understand why he's ranked behind Kirk

Moreno's K/BB ratio isn't nearly as good as Kirk's and the defense will probably be a lot closer if Alejandro lost some f***ing weight.

How does a professional athlete get to the point of 5'9, 260?

Get this guy on a treadmill!

Other fatties -

Daniel Vogelbach (6'0", 250)

Josh Naylor (5'11", 250)

Alek Manoah (6'6", 250)

Willians Astudillo (5'9", 225)

You could argue this guy has the worst body in professional baseball pretty easily (maybe in the last 20 years!)

I would even put Hiraldo above Kirk.

Even though I love everything about Kirk and am rooting for him, and personally he's one of my favourites in our system—reminds me of Jeremy Brown from the book and movie Moneyball—I don't trust that body will hod up well over the course of a season, let alone multiple seasons.

The bat is similar except Moreno has a much higher power potential and better defensive projections. The K/BB ratio isnt equal but the K rate is about equal

6'6 250 isnt fat

SRF- Did I miss him, he doesn't qualify, or he sucks so bad he fell out of top 50?

Great job and thanks for doing that.

He no longer qualifies.

Manoah isn't 250. He's probably closer to 290.

Yes it is.

I’m 6’4 and 190 pounds.

6’6 and 250 pounds is fat.

You're extremely slender, but that doesn't mean someone heavier is fat. I'm built a lot like Manoah at 6'6 230 with a 46 inch chest. I could perhaps lose 10 pounds, but would start to be unhealthy after that.

I start following guys that reach Lansing, sometimes Vancouver in special cases (like Kloffenstein).

Once they reach NH and Buffalo I watch a lot more. Defensive profiles get established over time, sometimes go by reputation but I try to at least have some visual data to back up our claims.

Kirk is an example of a guy we followed extensively from Lansing onwards last season.

While this is mostly true, it goes to show how much weight is put into hit tool and production vs potential.

Kirk has been very consistent offensively and walks more than he strikes out year by year. Last season he put up 173 wRC+ in Lansing (21 games) then a 153 wRC+ in Dunedin (71 games). Dude absolutely torched the Florida State League.

It wasn’t by accident scouts over at BA gave him a 70 hit tool, Kirk has borderline elite pitch recognition & bat to ball skills. My only concern was he was a bit too pull-happy at times, mostly in lansing.

I’ve seen enough to think if he was hitting juiced balls at triple-A, a lot of those doubles could be homers.

I really like Moreno too, nice to have both.
