Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 How do you guys factor in defense? Do any of you actually scout the defense or do you mostly rely on other sources for that?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 This is some good s*** guys! I love the aggressive ranking on Kirk.

Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I'd have Kirk around #8
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I'd have Kirk around #8 Fat shamer
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Fat shamer Lol. As a fat guy myself, no....just higher on the others
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Kirk #4? Hmmm... It's too small to even be considered a SSS but he looked awesome in the few ABs I have watched this ST
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 I'd have Kirk around #8 Who would you have ahead of him? The only guy I could see being defensible is Martinez, but Kirk had a better offensive season in a higher level.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Who would you have ahead of him? The only guy I could see being defensible is Martinez, but Kirk had a better offensive season in a higher level. Martinez, Manoah, Moreno.
Ryu In My House Verified Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 The McGuire entry made me lol
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Martinez, Manoah, Moreno. Ehh, I guess Manoah could also be defensible, but he's also a pitching prospect, in the low minors, college draftee be damned. I understand why he's ranked behind Kirk Moreno's K/BB ratio isn't nearly as good as Kirk's and the defense will probably be a lot closer if Alejandro lost some f***ing weight.
King Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 How does a professional athlete get to the point of 5'9, 260? Get this guy on a treadmill! Other fatties - Daniel Vogelbach (6'0", 250) Josh Naylor (5'11", 250) Alek Manoah (6'6", 250) Willians Astudillo (5'9", 225) You could argue this guy has the worst body in professional baseball pretty easily (maybe in the last 20 years!)
Beans Verified Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Martinez, Manoah, Moreno. I would even put Hiraldo above Kirk. Even though I love everything about Kirk and am rooting for him, and personally he's one of my favourites in our system—reminds me of Jeremy Brown from the book and movie Moneyball—I don't trust that body will hod up well over the course of a season, let alone multiple seasons.

The bat is similar except Moreno has a much higher power potential and better defensive projections. The K/BB ratio isnt equal but the K rate is about equal
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Kirk #4? Hmmm... Should be #2

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 SRF- Did I miss him, he doesn't qualify, or he sucks so bad he fell out of top 50? Great job and thanks for doing that.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 6'6" 250 isn't fat. Manoah isn't 250. He's probably closer to 290.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 Should be #2 This guy should be #1.
Beans Verified Member Posted February 24, 2020 Posted February 24, 2020 6'6" 250 isn't fat. Manoah isn't 250. He's probably closer to 290. Yes it is. I’m 6’4 and 190 pounds. 6’6 and 250 pounds is fat.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Yes it is. I’m 6’4 and 190 pounds. 6’6 and 250 pounds is fat. You're extremely slender, but that doesn't mean someone heavier is fat. I'm built a lot like Manoah at 6'6 230 with a 46 inch chest. I could perhaps lose 10 pounds, but would start to be unhealthy after that.
BlueRocky Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 (edited) How do you guys factor in defense? Do any of you actually scout the defense or do you mostly rely on other sources for that? I start following guys that reach Lansing, sometimes Vancouver in special cases (like Kloffenstein). Once they reach NH and Buffalo I watch a lot more. Defensive profiles get established over time, sometimes go by reputation but I try to at least have some visual data to back up our claims. Kirk is an example of a guy we followed extensively from Lansing onwards last season. The bat is similar except Moreno has a much higher power potential and better defensive projections. The K/BB ratio isnt equal but the K rate is about equal While this is mostly true, it goes to show how much weight is put into hit tool and production vs potential. Kirk has been very consistent offensively and walks more than he strikes out year by year. Last season he put up 173 wRC+ in Lansing (21 games) then a 153 wRC+ in Dunedin (71 games). Dude absolutely torched the Florida State League. It wasn’t by accident scouts over at BA gave him a 70 hit tool, Kirk has borderline elite pitch recognition & bat to ball skills. My only concern was he was a bit too pull-happy at times, mostly in lansing. I’ve seen enough to think if he was hitting juiced balls at triple-A, a lot of those doubles could be homers. I really like Moreno too, nice to have both. Edited February 25, 2020 by BlueRocky

Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 25, 2020 Posted February 25, 2020 Yes it is. I’m 6’4 and 190 pounds. 6’6 and 250 pounds is fat. Dude, J.J Watt is 6'5 and 289 and is NOT fat.. *By the way, the GB was switched to Thursday
