I'm sure someone would say they'd rather the opposing pitchers have a good grip on the ball so they don't hit and hurt the Angel players... I wonder what he was giving them. I mean did they just asked for sunscreen and that's what he gave them? or was he bringing them pine tar to doctor up their gloves? Or some other concoction?
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted March 9, 2020 Posted March 9, 2020 perhaps already posted, but Collin McHugh signed with the Red Sox. I would have liked to see the Jays nab him.

Yeah he has a chance to be a very nice pick up for the Red Sox. Have they stated how they intend to use him yet? With how weak their rotation looks that might be the best use of the guy, but their bullpen had issues last year as well so he could make a definite impact in any role for them.

He was almost certainty lured there by the promise of being a starter. Nobody would want to pitch for a mediocre team in Fenway park without some extra incentive. They only have 1 healthy major league calibre starter so he'll get a good look.

Believe it or not but Boston is a flagship franchise for MLB and most players would jump at the chance to play for them.

No, actually, he was just cleared to throw and will start the year on the IL... they've said he'll be used out of the pen. Along with others, I too wanted the Birds to get him.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Believe it or not but Boston is a flagship franchise for MLB and most players would jump at the chance to play for them. Opportunity trumps the chance to play for a specific franchise for the vast majority of players. I don't agree with you that their franchise history was a bigger deciding factor than their pitiful pitching staff.

How about the fact that ST has already started and he didn't clearly have a long list of suitors? I guess anything to fuel your Red Sox derangement.

I only found Castillo saying it was assumed.

I guess anything to fuel your Red Sox derangement. What you're describing is something called 'opportunity'. I already said that so I guess we'll be deranged together.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Their manager, last I read? You think they'll stretch him out in AAA? I think it would prudent to do so when their second starter was below replacement level last year and they have no clear options for the last 2 rotation spots.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 What you're describing is something called 'opportunity'. I already said that so I guess we'll be deranged together. No you didn't. Anyway, I don't feel like going down your aspergerian rabbit hole but he wasn't "lured" to Boston by anything other than a chance to play, and he certainly wasn't promised anything.

That's fair, although you really need to chill on that RS hate, it leaves thoughtful posts as misleading.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 lol... damn she's so hot! You can add A-Rod in a dress to the list of things I never want to see again.

Are you drunk or something? I said that he signed there due to opportunity, using that exact word, and have never deviated from that assertion. I don't know what you are even trying to discuss, since it's pretty clear that you agree with me entirely.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 That's fair, although you really need to chill on that RS hate, it leaves thoughtful posts as misleading. I don't know if calling their pitching staff mediocre would really qualify as hate. I said nothing disparaging about the team in this exchange. You guys are just perceiving a bias without reading the text.

I took the lured him to Boston as a under-handed shot, my bad, I agree they're in trouble this season, no doubt.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 Anyone have any idea what this non-base ball related illness/injury is that Trey Mancini has? I haven't even seen speculation, they are keeping it pretty tight-lipped. Anyone have some gossip? Trying to determine how serious/time-away etc it is? Thanks
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted March 10, 2020 Posted March 10, 2020 The Orioles have signed Danny Barnes to a minor league deal. They are truly enamored with our refuse.

He's expected to miss a lengthy amount of time, that's all that's known.

Thanks Kinda sounds like cancer or something similar. He had surgery for something that was making him feel ill, and it's non-baseball related.
