I don't really understand why Texas had to add more to Hernandez. Lowe for Hernandez is probably close to fair on its own, but it seems like Tampa as usual just got a bunch of talented young pieces before they blow up in value for Lowe when they don't value guys like him at all - and I like Nate Lowe, he raked in the minors.

Yeah I was just looking at the stats for the three Rangers prospects and it's easy to imagine them all becoming good players. Frigging Tampa Bay.

It's like TB went to Fangraphs, searched the Rangers rookie ball teams and picked the 3 best hitters. All 3 of them raked in 2019.

Can Hernandez stick at C? Looks like he's played C, 1st and RF in the minors

My understanding is that Hernandez probably isn't a catcher long term, but could hit enough to play at 1B.

I'm wondering if the impetus for the deal is to make Yandy Diaz exclusively a 1B/DH along with Choi, and you know who takes over 3B.

Who?

Brian Cashman had an interview on YES today

Tidbits borrowed from MLBTR

Cashman indicated the Yankees are intent on bringing back second baseman DJ LeMahieu, who’s among baseball’s elite free agents, but he isn’t sure if an agreement will come together. Although LeMahieu also has interest in returning to the team, Cashman doesn’t believe a deal is any closer to materializing than it was previously.

Shortstop Gleyber Torres might be a fit for the keystone, though, as Cashman admitted, “I think he’s a better second baseman than shortstop

On Sanchez. the Yankees still believe in the 28-year-old, saying, “There’s certainly an anticipation and an expectation of a bounce-back for Gary Sanchez.” The GM noted that Sanchez was an All-Star in 2019 who’s perennially a 30-home run type, adding that he paced all major league catchers in exit velocity. “No one hit the ball harder at that position than he did

Free agent outfielder David Dahl and the Texas Rangers are in agreement on a one-year deal for around $3 million, sources familiar with the agreement tell ESPN. The 26-year-old Dahl was nontendered by Colorado but should find plenty of playing time with the Rangers.

Reliever Brandon Morrow and the Los Angeles Dodgers are in agreement on a minor league deal, sources tell ESPN. Morrow returns to where he starred in 2017 before injuries hampered his two years with the Cubs. Now 36, he’s a flyer for a team with a good rep for rehabbing pitchers.

Ranger have apparently signed David Dahl. Nice landing spot for him.

Yes, and the Dodgers have apparently signed Brandon Morrow.

Hope Morrow latches on to the big league roster. He still looked electric the last time he pitched in the majors. Poor guy's career was just decimated by injuries likely in part due to his diabetes making it more difficult to rehab.

He's done well considering his struggles. He's still getting work and his career earnings have to be getting up there. Lots of guys as fragile as him wash out before they are done arb

His 17K one-hit masterpiece is still hands down the most dominant game I've ever seen from a Jays pitcher.

This, though...

Previously, on September 24 and 30, 1988, Stieb had no-hitters broken up with two outs and two strikes in the top of the ninth inning in two consecutive starts.

I can't speak knowledgeably about those Steib games as I was just a youngster but I did find this:

Stieb at his peak was awesome, and these days with sabermetrics is considered by many to have been the best pitcher in MLB in the 1980's. I would get excited starting two days before his next start. Not many other pitchers as entertaining as Stieb. Doc, Rocket Roger, Pedro, Ryan are a couple of others - pitchers you just had to watch.

That pitching score for his game was like 2nd best all time if I recall correctly. Masterpiece.

Hah, you linked it, cool beans.

Best game score ever was Kerry Wood's 20K gem. 105... Unreal.

I don't think Dombrowski's going to re-sign Realmuto...

On immediate plans for free agency: Dombrowski doesn’t anticipate making wholesale changes in the organization right now. He repeated that his preference is to get to know the people currently installed within the organization, gauge their roles and responsibilities, strengths and so on before making any significant changes. The organization does plan to cut payroll from last season, which pours water on the idea that Dombrowski would run right over to sign J.T. Realmuto or anyone else to a monster contract.
