glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Seems like the Mets will get McCann and probably Springer. I wonder if they go after Bauer too?
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 So it will be official in less than an hour
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 McCann getting a four year FA deal as a 30 year old catcher following his time with the Tigers is a massive success story.
connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Springer thing sucks. Hopefully someone loses their farm but not looking good
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I don't think the Jays even want Realmuto. Almost certainly they do not... Unless, as previously discussed, we can't get any of Springer/Bauer/Tanaka/Lindor/Kim etc. Then we sign Realmuto and trade Jansen or Kirk plus a SP prospect plus one more player for Snell and a member of the Rays 98 mph bullpen club
jerb Verified Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Bob Klapisch @BobKlap #Mets are moving closer to George Springer and/or Trevor Bauer. Ultimate target is TBD. I’m told @StevenACohen2 is leaning towards Springer; Alderson would like to sign Bauer. Either one would be a huge upgrade in Flushing.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Imagine being a billionaire, buying your childhood team with your own money, and just signing everyone you want within a month of owning the team. Cohen living every sports fan's dream. Good for him and the Mets. Unfortunately, bad for the Jays.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Four years for McCann is very dumb. This.

Mark Cuban's been trying to buy the Pirates several times over the years, that's my dream for the Bucs. He'd loosen s*** up in Pittsburgh for once.

G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I think we want Bauer. Atkins is trying to misdirect the other suitors into overpaying position player targets. Atkins has been a bit out of character this off-season in regards to how aggressive we'll be. And we're linked to every single position player available and somehow almost no pitchers. There has to be a motive.

I don't think the Jays are getting Bauer, but it's interesting how the team has been linked to everyone, literally everyone, but little to no mention of Bauer from what I've seen (or maybe I missed it). Not even Morosi trying to troll for clicks. Maybe Luba's presence on social media is scaring the faux rumor specialists like Morosi from posting.

Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Wow, what an accomplishment. I guess he hasn't pimped at life like you have, my bad.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 If this is indeed true, I hope they sign Bauer. So Toronto steps in and gets Springer. I think I'd rather have Bauer. Elite pitchers tend to stay elite until they break, and no MLB pitcher is more into biomechanics than Bauer. Teams have done pretty well with mega-contracts for aces over the last 10-15 years, and I think Bauer will continue that trend. I also just plain prefer the aesthetics of a frontline starter more than a 4-5 win position player, as a fan. And Bauer the person is super likeable and engaging.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 I don't think the Jays even want Realmuto. I think they definitely prefer Springer, but won't shy away from adding Realmuto if Springer picks NYM & LeMahieu stays with the Yankees. Would really be our only chance to add an impact position player at that point, and Realmuto also loses a significant suitor if the Mets end up signing McCann so his asking price may naturally come down. I don't see any other obvious fits for him either? Phillies are crying poor, Angels seem more concentrated on pitching, Yankees seem fixated on LeMahieu. Nats could be an option, however little indication they want to add anyone of significance this offseason. You could add Realmuto and then proceed to flip Jansen + prospects for Lindor and then you're looking at one of the absolute best lineups in baseball*: Biggio, 3B Bichette, 2B Lindor SS Teoscar, RF Vlad, 1B Realmuto, C Gurriel, LF Kirk, DH Grichuk, CF *defense not included Blue Jays receive: Francisco Lindor Indian receive: Danny Jansen, Miguel Hiraldo, Riley Adams, and... Derek Fisher or Santiago Espinal?

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 Man, it will get depressing if we lose out on all the major free agents. We gotta get at least 1 of them.

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 9, 2020 Posted December 9, 2020 If you want depression - go have a look the list of major FA signings and see how they faired... For us or in general? Springer on a 5 year deal would be great. He can always move to LF/RF for the last year or two of that contract. Cant see that going south much.

We gotta get at least 1 of them. It depends what you consider major and what we do via trade I guess. I'm interested in free agents like Bradley, Kim, and Paxton. Then there's guys like Bryant and Lindor on the trade market. This offseason is a probably a success for me if we upgrade at CF, 3B, and SP, with at least one being a star player. If we don't then it's probably a failure.

I don't seem to connect it, I'm fine with what the Jays do, certainly if they do anything similar to your suggestion.

My wish list is signing Springer, trading for Lindor or even Bryant and then signing a guy like Paxton. Just want 2 impact positional players (preferably at CF or SS/3B). If we end up with Bradley and Kim as our big moves, I'll consider a huge disappointment.
