Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 I guess the Reds don't really need outfielders as they have like six on their roster but point being is that Gurriel's contract makes him a valuable chip that should be cashed in also on someone with control. If you can move a corner OF to shore up other areas of need then pull the trigger. Every year there are a bunch of guys available on short contracts to plug into LF. This year there are guys like Schwarber, Rosario, Pederson, Grossman or even Brantley who could all be had relatively cheap or short term. As much as I like Gurriel and think there's still upside there at a very affordable price. I can't argue with this one bit. If he's a chip to shore up a more critical position like SS, CF or even SP, then I think you have to go for it.

Don't care about the airbnb component too much, but that is one really nice AA ball park in an incredible location. I looked it up on a map and it looks like there are tons of restaurants, bars, etc. all around the diamond on the water. What a great setup!

Jays24 Old-Timey Member Posted December 7, 2020 Posted December 7, 2020 LG + SWR + Jansen for Snell. They’d prob want Kirk though I've mentioned it before that whatever players the Rays want in return for Snell, I am keeping those players on our team forever. I dont trust us winning a trade with them lol.

Tampa Bay Acquires Jake Bauers, Rene Rivera, Burch Smith, Travis Ott, and Steven Souza Jr. in a Three-Team Deal with the San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals for Jose Castillo, Ryan Hanigan, Wil Myers, and Gerardo Reyes; San Diego Additionally Sent Joe Ross and a Player to be Named Later, which became Trea Turner, to Washington (December 19, 2014) There is a lot to unpack in this trade, but the key thing to note is the Rays had a chance to trade Wil Myers to San Diego for Joe Ross and Trea Turner but instead decided to include the Washington Nationals to acquire Steven Souza Jr. instead. The Rays possessed the key player that was coveted in this trade, that being Wil Myers, and the San Diego Padres were willing to give up top prospects to acquire him. The Rays had a chance to send their package of players and, in return, receive a package that would have included Ross and, most importantly, Turner. However, the Rays decided that they didn’t want to give up a former top prospect like Myers without receiving a major-league ready player in return, thus their desire to have Souza included in the deal.

The Rays love on this board is blindingly strong. They're a great front office, but not invincible and very capable of losing trades: Padres acquire: Jake Cronenworth, Tommy Pham Rays acquire: Xavier Edwards, Hunter Renfroe (DFA), Esteban Quiroz

ICR..?? Jury is still out on Xavier Edwards...

See Pirates (Archer), Twins (Garza), Astros (Zorbrist), Cubs (Archer), Mets (Kasmir), etc. There's no way we win a Snell trade. Why does it have to be that the Jays "win" a Snell trade, or any trade? If they bring in a World Series title and Snell has something to do with it, the Jays win the trade. People hate Trump so much but they all think like him, a binary win-lose scenario. That being said, I'm not a particularly great fan of that trade suggestion.

They don’t need to “win” the trade, but the chances of them losing it badly seem a lot higher if they are trading with Tampa, plus they are division rivals so if the Jays mess it up it doubly hurts them.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Wow, White Sox are in it to win it 2021!
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Dunning looked decent this year, but I'm surprised that Texas couldn't do any better.
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 According to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, MLB instructed clubs in a memo last week "to proceed under the assumption" that the designated hitter will not be used in the National League next year. This nugget was revealed as part of Rosenthal's notes column on Monday. It came within the greater context of a question of roster size and how it might be impacted by the Rule 5 Draft. MLB implemented the DH in the NL this year due to COVID-19, an effort aimed at reducing the workload on starting pitchers. The uncertainty over the situation has cast a large shadow over the early part of the offseason, as a number of free agents could see their markets slashed in half. Nelson Cruz stands out the most, but Marcell Ozuna could also factor in here. Similarly, a team like the Mets could alter their offseason plans with both Pete Alonso and Dominic Smith in-house. There's always the chance something is negotiated which keeps the DH in the NL -- the players certainly wouldn't mind that -- but the owners would have to get something in return, with expanded playoffs one obvious possibility. f***ing Manfred can't get anything right. He really is a moron.

Some folks on here were throwing a ridiculous amount of assets for 1 year of Lynn, that seems about right, IMO. Rangers save a ton of money and get plenty years of control at a possible mid rotation starter. Fair deal, me thinks. Chisox are indeed going for it.

So what's the equivalent of Dane Dunning on the Jays? Anthony Kay? Thomas Hatch? A back end starter with upside to be a mid rotation starter. Hard to judge Dunning coming off tommy John and such a short season. This could turn out pretty decent for the Rangers. It's not like they are going any where next year.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 So what's the equivalent of Dane Dunning on the Jays? Anthony Kay? Thomas Hatch? Manoah would be the closest comp.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Manoah would be the closest comp. Manoah is 22 year old who throws a 100 and has 17 minor league innings under his belt. Dunning throws 92 and has 266 innings in the minors and 34 in the majors last year and has missed a year due to tommy John. I'm not sure that's the best comp. It was only 34 innings, but his numbers looked pretty good. Did Dunning throw harder before his surgery? Are his secondary pitches really good? On the face of it, the trade looks really aggressive from the Sox Side. I love aggression, but this is a little much even for me. I don't know their system though. Do they have a lot of higher end pitching prospects close to the majors?

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Dunning is/was their 3rd best pitching prospect/young pitcher.. Much better then Hatch and Kay IMO Fair enough....might not be a really good comp in our system.

One thing, the Sox have just made themselves more attractive to free agents for next year. We could do the same by going and signing Paxton!
Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Fair enough....might not be a really good comp in our system. There isn't one.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Fair enough....might not be a really good comp in our system. Kay before this season probably had similar value, but he struggled out of the bullpen.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Yeah imagine if Kay had success as an MLB starter in 2020 and now had solid projections. That's Dunning
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 As I said, Manoah is the closest comp. From the perspective of trade value, certainly. Once again, comparing a guy who has several minor league season in and actual experience in the MLB and a guy who has spent 10 minutes in the minors isn't a good comp. Comparing a guy who throws 100 to a guy who thows 92 isn't a good comp. The lower velocity guy may end up being the better MLB pitcher compared to a high velocity guy, but the way young pitchers are viewed the high velocity guys are more coveted and are more often viewed with higher upside. Manoah is 3 years younger.

connorp Old-Timey Member Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Dunning > Danny J. Gets crapped on for the velo but the movement is really good. He’s a legit mid-rotation guy, not just ceiling if everything falls in place. I think Texas did ok. I’m sure they worked the phones and had other options
