I mean, I dont know where Passan got that Bauer wasnt naturally gifted.

Passan was definitely pumping the guy up big tine

It's because Jeff Passan wrote the book "The Arm", which I haven't read, but from my understanding goes into lengths about Bauers lack of natural athleticism. Bauer has spoken about this himself.

“Look, I’m not that big,” says Bauer, who is 6’1″, 185. “I’m not that strong. I’m not fast. I’m not explosive. I can’t jump. I wasn’t a natural-born athlete. I was made.”

Move to the DR. They have academies at good prices.

There is an educational and college prep component to it also. I highly doubt you are getting anything other then a certain style of baseball out of a DR Academy.

I read somewhere though that seemed legit that as good as IMG sounds and costs, their teachers make jack...and so they’re scraping from bottom of barrel. Not sure where I read that but I usually don’t automatically believe what I read

Perry Minasian has been hired as the Angels' new general manager, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic.

Minasian quickly emerged as the favorite this week as the Angels began narrowing down their long list of initial candidates with a final round of interviews. He spent the last three seasons serving as an assistant to Braves president of baseball operations Alex Anthopoulos, and before that he worked for nine years in the Blue Jays' front office and scouting department.

BJ connection getting a shot. Best of luck with the Angels.

I hope it goes well for him. A well-run Angels team could be so much fun to watch.

I can't imagine how frustrating it would be to be a fan of a team with two of the top 5 players in the league on your team + Ohtani and still suck giant bags of dicks. It would be huge for baseball if the Angels could have some success.

Nick Burdi declared FA today, I own him in a few League's but I hadn't known he went under for TJS again, last I read he had a shot and was supposed to come back, rest in peace young man.

I feel so bad for Trout. That team is cursed.

OT Politics a bit but it’s BS that you can’t deduct private school on your taxes.

Why should you be able to? What is the policy argument for giving that additional tax break to rich people?

Anyway, in Canada I believe there are ways to deduct a good chunk. You can account for some of it as child care (deductible) and if it's a primarily religious institution a higher percentage may be deductible.

Bs misconception. I’m far from rich but make a good enough salary to send my kid to $15k/yr private school. I get a couple thousand off for aid. I definitely feel that money spent. Do it to improve my son’s college prospects as well as keep him out of some of the crap he’d be around in public school. I’m hardly alone in my situation

For the record, US you write off nothing

So you made a decision to spend money on something you can afford and just wish it was cheaper. Gotcha. I don't see a policy argument there, though.

Sounds a lot like college too except you can deduct that

I have no issue with the composition of race in baseball versus other sports but to suggest these differences are genetic (particularly some of the arguments put forward here) is absolutely asinine. It's all cultural and money-based.

NBA players come from poor places - inner city U.S. and Eastern Europe - because it requires minimal equipment and is seen as one path to getting out of economic hardship.

Hockey players tend to be from better off families because hockey is expensive.

Baseball is somewhere in between the two.

Football is kind of the sport for everyone but the clear lines between position and race have more to do with college football (often racial) practices going back decades that has only recently started to break down.

Nothing to do with genetics in race. Alex Ovechkin would have a much better shot at becoming a cornerback in the NFL if he trained for it than the average American-born black man.

There is an argument that the taxpayer savings accrued when a parent decides to send their kid to a private school should be reimbursed. This would likely be a small portion of the private school cost, 25%?

Having public schools well funded and well attended is in the best interests of everyone in society, even those who choose not to go. That's why people with no children and retirees pay taxes as well.

Agreed, but as I said, there is a viable counterargument.

Jose Abreu and Freddie Freeman win the MVPs

Very few players aged 30+ have won MVPs since 2000. This year they're both 30+
