Regardless of COVID, or nothing to do with it at all. Nashville and the greater Nashville, area is one of the fastest growing areas in the US. I have spent some time there the past few years including as recently as the end of December. It will be an excellent place for a baseball team. Montreal on the other hand, had one of the lowest growth rates of major metro cities in NA a number of years ago. The demo in Montreal is not what is was from 68 to early 90s with the Expos.

Looking at it from a business stand point, a place players would want to play and live, fan base potential, I would say Nashville hands down!!

I think Nashville is definitely getting a franchise. It's just a matter of when and how (expansion or relocation). I don't understand the urge to go back to Montreal. It failed the first time, and the moment the Expos franchise is revived and puts up a few bad seasons in a row it will die again. There's no point going back there. They'd be better off building a new stadium for the Rays in a better location. The one Canadian market that I think could work in MLB is Vancouver, which is basically like Toronto's fanbase (will support a winner but disappear when things are bad). But like I said, after this whole Canada debacle with the Jays, I think MLB will feel it's not worth the hassle anymore.

I don't get the reason why people need to go out of their way to put down Alford. I think it's unlikely he's going to amount to much either, but he's a pretty nice dude. There's less yelling bust for Mckinney or Fisher and they are both older and were 1st Rounders. Alford was a 3rd round pick. I don't get it.

It's not him, it's the idiots who proclaim him as the second coming every damn year. No one is saying that about McKinney or Fisher.

Agreed. Nashville, Raleigh, New Orleans are all places I'd put above another Canadian team.

Raleigh over Charlotte? The latter do already have a AAA team there but I can't imagine that being a factor in the decision. Larger city with two top 4 sports teams already seems like a no-brainer decision.

Or do you just mean Charlotte is a no-doubter over another Canadian city and those are probably ahead too?

The door's closing on those guys, but there's still a chance something clicks.

To be fair, Alford was a top 50 prospect at one point. He just hasn't delivered the last two seasons, and time has essentially run out. Either way he got more rope than McKinney or Fisher because of his prospect status, and the fact that through 2017 he actually did look like a really good prospect. No one expected anything out of McKinney or Fisher the moment they were acquired. The expectations (and hope) were a lot higher for Alford.

I can picture it now...

Martin impresses so much that he gets a little bit of a taste of game action this season. He hits a walkoff grand slam in the Bottom of the 9th at Camden Yards. Against the Orioles.

I think Atlanta can get in the way of a team in Charlotte because that is considered the braves area

I can see it now, the Jays move to Charlotte this season and after North Carolina opens the door for fan attendance baseball hungry North Carolinians pack the stands. Michael Jordan, being the longtime baseball fans that he is, decides to buy the Jays and move them to Charlotte. This opens the door for Hurl and his long time dream of turning this into a Rays board. We all become Rays fans.

In this imaginary world Herd Immunity occurs at 20%, US Virus cases quickly decreases over the next 6 weeks and are almost gone by early September. Fans pack Charlotte starting in September. Jays make playoffs. Justin decides to let them back in. Players, Shapiro balk at it after the support Charlotte has shown. Jays players refuse to go back after the love Charlotte has shown, Trump and all opposing teams balk at the move. Jays decide to play playoffs in Charlotte (even though Justin decided they could come back). Jays win world series. Charlotte holds ticker tape parade. US economy roars back completely while other countries realize the lockdowns were a mistake and they were left behind. Dow hits 35,000 Oct 30th. Trump re-elected Nov 4th. Jays permanently move to Charlotte Nov 10th.

Yeah basically this. Don't forget the part about Hurl turnings this into a Rays board. He's tried it before.

I am thinking the same about Vancouver being too close to Seattle.

As far as this COVID19 BS being the beginning of the end for the Jays in Canada, I don't think so at all as long as things are back to normal for next season. I highly doubt that will not be the case; otherwise we are going to have a hell of a lot more to worry about than MLB, like a completely melted down economy!

No way I can see Rogers wanting to sell the Jays any time soon, as long as they continue to have a 40M viewer TV market all to themselves.

I do think this hurts Montreal's chanes of getting a team back, but I have learned this year is don't even try to predict what is going to happen with anything in this world

Every city that has ever lost its only MLB baseball team since the 1900's got one back eventually.

Yeah I don't know where this idea came from. The Jays are one of the stronger franchises in the league. They're not going anywhere.

I don't know anything about North Carolina.

Might I add, unjustly, since Fisher in particular has a very similar set of skills.

it's hard to deny a guy who hits 2 bombs in one game! I remain a tad skeptical, but I hope he can take a big leap forward and be a contributor. We need a handful of guys to take leaps this year. Teoscar or Grichuk might have to hit the bench against some tough righties as the season progressed. Rowdy is my 5 hole hitter for opening day. He's in a groove

I though Borucki looked great last night. He was on the edges or off the plate for almost all of his pitches. He got lit up oppo taco by one of the best hitters in the game on a pitch that caught too much of the plate. The velocity was there. He's my 5th starter week 1.

Its official:The Toronto #BlueJays will play the majority of their home games at PNC park in Pittsburgh, as @thehazelmae reported. The exceptions are that they will play one series against the #Yankees and another against the #Nats as the home team at Yankee Stadium and Nats Park

I'm glad they didn't do a travel day for the Nats series. Would have been pointless to play in Washington for 2 games, then travel just to play the Nats again in another city. More games at Yankee Stadium sucks, though.

Do you know it is North Of South Carolina ? ;)

I DID in fact glean that. Bless those beautiful bastards in charge of naming states.
