True, but he got Napoli by dumping Vernon Wells which was a magic act... So, I give him more leeway on that one..

Imagine how great the trade would have been if Napoli throws up a 6 or 7 win season for a fraction of Wells's salary with us instead of Texas.

Just a beautiful video from a channel that everyone should be subscribed to.

Oh, yah, that’s a good baseball channel. I subscribed last year after watching the Juan Soto video he put out.

I'm really looking forward to Nate Pearson being plugged into the rotation for the entire 2020 Jays season

John Lott of The Athletic reports that the Blue Jays have committed to paying all full-time employees through October 1.

There will be some pay cuts, but only for staff members "above a low-earning threshold," per Lott's sources. The highest-salaried employees will take the biggest pay reductions. Props to the Blue Jays for easing the stress of their own as the baseball world attempts to wait out the coronavirus pandemic.

Classy move boys.

Gotta hold him out for 2 of the 10 weeks to get an extra year of service time.

Tomorrow the owners will present a new proposal to MLBPA.

If there is a season, apparently each team will have a taxi squad. Not sure this would mean the taxi squad would follow the MLB team around, and play the other team's taxi squad ahead of the MLB game?

Rebuilding / building teams are expected to have top prospects on the taxi squad. Contenders, less so.

From the Jays top 10, who do you think should be included on the taxi squad?

1. Pearson (Yes)

2. Groshans (Yes)

3. SWR (Yes)

4. Kirk (Yes)

5. Manoah (Yes)

6. Martinez (Maybe?)

7. Moreno (No)

8. Hiraldo (No)

9. Kay (Yes)

10. Kloffenstein (No)

(I'm just trying to get more activity going in this part of BJMB as opposed to the off topic cesspool)

I wonder how service time accrual would work for taxi squad members? If you were to start the service clocks early for so many key prospects it might be reason not to include some of these guys.

Only Pearson and Kay could realistically make the team. The other guys are too far away, no point in starting clocks for guys who haven't even got pass AA.

Realistically our taxi squad probably looks something like this depending on who makes the team out of camp.

Pearson

Kay

Hatch

Merryweather

Pannone

Perez

Reid-Foley

Waguespack

Zeuch

Jackson

Romano

Santiago Espinal

Josh Palacios

Forrest Wall

McKinney

Panik

I can't see service time accrual applying to the taxi squad, only those on the MLB roster.

Taxi squad is probably going to be 40 man roster players + maybe some older AAA prospects (Wall, Palacios, whoever they signed to minor league deals, etc). I doubt anyone is going to dip into their prospect pool of low A-AA guys for this. The MLBPA is not going to allow teams to use players and not have them accrue service time in the process so it would make no sense for any team to do that. Most likely teams send their good prospects to fall leagues (assuming they are open by then) to get their reps in.

Plenty of chatter of teams having top prospects on the taxi squad for development purposes. Because as things stand now, no MiLB.

One example:

Rodriguez isn't likely to make his big-league debut during the coming season even if rosters are expanded as currently proposed, Corey Brock of The Athletic reports.

Analysis

The 19-year-old decimated pitching at his first two professional stops in 2019, but he's yet to play above the High-A level. His overall lack of experience simply renders him insufficiently prepared to face big-league pitching on an everyday basis, and neither the extra roster spots that should be at manager Scott Servais' disposal nor a potential cancellation of the minor-league season are expected to change the strategy. However, if the latter circumstance does come to pass, it's certainly conceivable Rodriguez is part of a possible 20-man taxi squad that will ostensibly be made up of an organization's top prospects from various levels of the minors.

Which is apparently not the plan.

I'll believe it, when I see it. There's been zero information released by the MLB in regards to the taxi squad.

I can’t believe they are still trying these stupid gimmicky ideas. Most of things are stupid and far fetched. Atleast the NBA plans sound realistic. I just don’t understand how this even takes off.

Not a chance if a prospect plays in MLB Game that the clock doesn’t start. The agents will fight that to the end.

No one is saying this. A taxi squad is not MLB.

The part I am most interested in is when does the taxi squad play. Before the MLB game, is there a game between the two teams' taxi squads? That would be interesting to watch.

There needs to be a clear definition of what the role of the taxi squad will be. I'm assuming it is in case of injury to anyone on the big league roster in the absence of the minor leagues to promote/demote players. If that's the case, then top prospects who aren't ready yet won't really serve a purpose. If the taxi squad is partly to counter injuries, and partly to get top prospects reps since there won't be a minor league season, then that's different. Not sure if it's been defined yet.

It's been so long since I've even thought about baseball. I looked at the 40 man for the first time in forever. No Nate Pearson on the 40. Practically forgot we even had Shoemaker. Felt pretty good about that. The infield...dynamite....and then the outfield..ugggh...oh yeah..forgot about that too. Can't wait for the schedule to come out.
