HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Verlander is NOT happy about being pulled. He should be mad at his offense, who is hitting sub .180 with RISP this postseason.

HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 I feel like I'm watching the 2014 Royals ripping my heart out in the ALCS. It's tough to take.
EdwinsParrot Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Wow, Nats really haven't cooled down at all after that long break
glory Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 The Nats are winning this series. It's destined to be.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Methinks the Nats go up 2-0 in the series tonight. Verlander will go 0 for 5 in WS starts. *hunch* The Nats are winning this series. It's destined to be. The universe is unfolding as it should.
HealthDream007 Verified Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 The Astros badly need Greinke to give them a big effort in game 3. And he hasn't been good. On paper they should hit Sanchez, but with the way there series has gone, who knows.
GoJays1562 Verified Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 Damn talk about an underdog story. If the Nats pull this off they went through the top 2 seeds in the playoffs as a wild card team. Just shows you how random postseason baseball is.
DigitalRock Old-Timey Member Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 This is awesome. Hope it's a sweep.

TheHurl Site Manager Posted October 24, 2019 Posted October 24, 2019 People have to stop talking like the Nats are this huge upset. Since the 19-31 start they have won more games than anyone else in baseball. They were 4th in baseball in WAR totals

It's not a huge upset by any stretch of the imagination. The Nationals have a really good team. A rotation led by Scherzer, Strasburg and Corbin is one of the best in baseball.

They have a history of underperforming in the Playoffs, but I don't believe that teams are chokers. To me this is as surprising as the Dodgers winning. Of Course we also should note that this isn't over

It's going the Nats way so far. This also shows trying for a short window of contention (like the Mets idiot) is a dumb approach. Need a period of sustained winning.

Yeah, I mean last game was inches away from the inning ending with a one run lead. The bullpen usage would have been dramatically different if it had (I assume). The Nats got really lucky, then made it look worse against guys who hadn't pitched for a while after it was already decided.

Looking back on this game, its kinda confusing that Hinch went to Pressly instead of Harris or Smith in that situation. Game 2 was extremely important for the Astros, if they keep the game close and force the Nats to use Doolittle and Hudson then the Nats are kinda gassed for games 3/4/5. Instead they let the Nats blow it out and rest their best relievers.

Bringing a guy with an injured knee into a critical situation like that has trouble written all over it.
Omar Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 I really want the Nats/expos to win however game 3 will be the tell tale. If the Astros take game 3 they are right back in it and momentum can shift on a dime. Cole and Verlander can/will come back with a vengeance.

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted October 25, 2019 Posted October 25, 2019 How many teams have come back from being down the first 2 games at home in a WS final?? Three
Ex Player Verified Member Posted October 25, 2019 Author Posted October 25, 2019 Google that question, idiot?! It was a trivia question, you pathetic alcoholic. And you still couldnt get it right Three Correct. Only three teams have done it. Odds are not looking good for the Stros https://www.mlb.com/news/2-to-0-deficit-baseball-playoff-rallies-c297376582 Teams that win the first two games in a best-of-seven postseason series have history on their side. Those clubs have prevailed in 71 of 84 instances, but all isn't lost for the team facing an 0-2 deficit, as the Astros now are in the World Series against the Nationals. The 13 teams that overcame those long odds have proved, time and again, that no two-game lead is safe. Even an 0-3 deficit has been conquered once, by the curse-busting Red Sox against the Yankees in the 2004 American League Championship Series. However, of the 25 teams to lose Games 1 and 2 at home in a best-of-seven series, only three have rallied to win the series. Since the 1996 Yankees became the last team to accomplish that feat in the World Series against the Braves, 10 straight teams have failed to come back from dropping the first two games at home. Six of those were swept. Of the 13 comebacks overall, 10 have come in the World Series, while three were in a League Championship Series (two in the AL and one in the National League), which was lengthened to a best-of-seven series beginning in 1985. Those are the odds now facing the Astros, who won 107 games in the regular season, got past the Rays and Yankees in the AL playoffs, and now have their backs against the wall in the Fall Classic. The Nationals, after sweeping the Cardinals in the NLCS, took Games 1 and 2 at Minute Maid Park to stretch their postseason win streak to eight games and put history firmly on their side.
