They'll probably do similar to Hatch with someone like Denyi Reyes. If we could get a Josh Taylor or some equivalent, that would be more interesting to me though.

 

Actually, I think I'd be plenty happy with Denyi Reyes too. There might be more there than I thought, although softer throwers who rely on command often struggle in the upper minors and majors after dominating in the lower levels.

I'm confused as to why they waited for an MRI and cortisone shot for Giles. If they had done that a week or two ago (he's been battling inflammation for a while), he might've been back in time for a game or so before the deadline. It's like they kept trying to push him before the trade deadline, but if they had treated it right, he could've been back pitching by now.

So the Rangers just got Kolby Allard, who is almost certainly a better prospect than Anthony Kay, for Chris Martin, who is having a good year and likely has a few more years of control but is a f***ing 33 year old reliever with like, zero full MLB seasons on his resume.

Martin might be a free agent this offseason according to some twitter randoms. Some obscure rule about him spending time in Japan? I dunno.

Yeah that is a surprising return for Martin. There was a rumor that the Braves were interested in Biagini (3.5 years of control left). I doubt we could have gotten Allard for him, but he's younger than Martin.

I wonder if we could of got that for Biagini who the Braves were rumoured to be interested in.

 

I don't think Allard is that good. What is appealing is where he is at for his age.

Yeah, no way Allard is better than Kay. A future value fastball of 40 according to Fangraphs. Yuck! Kay has potential mid-starter stuff and Allard has potential backend starter stuff.

uh Kay is 24, Allard is 21. Usually if you haven't broken into the majors by 24-25, you get shot down on the totem pole. I think the fact Allard is 3 years younger and still can develop would make him far more valuable.
