Laika Community Moderator Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 And now there is a Toronto media tweet saying the Jays are not being offered top prospects for Stroman. You guys know better than to react to media hype. Just wait and see.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Did you turn back into Brownie and tell yourself that you have mentioned this same point already, therefore are disqualified from ever bringing it up again, even if weeks or months (or years) have passed? That's the real question that needs to be addressed. And I doubt the difference in the two numbers is that much. Even Stroman is not so much of an egomaniac that he's going to want numbers that the market is not seeing. If anything he is probably asking for something similar to what Corbin got (6/140). I doubt the Jays number is any less than 5/80, if it is, then obviously they have no shot. dude I even acknowledged it...relax - and none of us should pretend we have any idea what the potential extension offers or counter offers are. Would you give Stroman 6 years $140M? Would you be mad at the FO if they took that offer, rejected it and decided to trade him? What if it was 8 years for $184? (same AAV as Corbin, but Stro is younger with a slightly longer track record)
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Mets about to trade Thor and screw up our market. He'll go to the Yankees for Garcia+. They aren't offering Garcia for Stroman and I want nothing to do with Frazier. It won't do much to the market for Stroman.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Not much of a surprise. Source: #Royals now firmly indicating to teams that Whit Merrifield will not be traded by next Wednesday. Jake Diekman, however, is increasingly likely to be dealt. Story: https://t.co/bvqytigDfg @MLBNetwork @MLB
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Not sure if it's been said, but MadBum is staying in SF.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 With yesterday's start done, Jays can play the waiting game. Doubt Stroman gets moved until much closer to the deadline. Sooner the better in dealing Giles.
Todd Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Get the feeling the jays are going to some how f*** up this years trades. Like the last couple of years. Last year it was to soon could have maybe got more. This year waiting to long might get less for some of these players.
Captain Adama Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Bichette and pardinho for Thor Go f*** yourself
jerb Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Andy Martino @martinonyc Source: Blue Jays have told interested teams that they might not trade Stroman, but extend him. Unclear if this is a res possibility or a negotiating tactic
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Bichette and pardinho for Thor Shad up

Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Bichette and pardinho for Thor Only if it's the actual Thor
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Kinda contrary to what Stro has been saying. I'm guessing it's the latter. Negotiating tactic. All about that leverage.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 I'm guessing it's the latter. Negotiating tactic. All about that leverage. Zero leverage. Everyone knows that the Jays haven't even approached Stro about a contract. However, if Stroman could keep his mouth shut then maybe they would've had a bit of leverage. Only way I see the Jays not moving Stroman is if Rogers stepped in and said, "the casuals are angry. Extend him."
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Yeah whatever leverage the Jays could have had was destroyed by Stro going public. Everyone knows they are trading him.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Jays have another year of control. They have leverage.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 #Twins OF prospect Trevor Larnach is drawing significant attention from scouts. He was just promoted to Double-A. Selling clubs believe Larnach could be attainable since Minnesota has a young @MLB OF and OF Alex Kirilloff also at Double-A. @MLBNetwork Anyone know much about him? Maybe Kidiloff is a pipedream and I'll have to switch my focus to Larnach
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 25, 2019 Posted July 25, 2019 Jays have another year of control. They have leverage. If the plan is to move him, he is worth less next year.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 If the plan is to move him, he is worth less next year. Of course. But to say the Jays have 'zero leverage' is wrong.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Jays have another year of control. They have leverage. They don't have to trade him, yes, but it is hard to use "we might extend him" as leverage when Stroman is saying the opposite every time someone puts a mic under his mouth. So in that sense, leverage is not on the Jays side. They can obviously keep him and use him in 2020, and maybe work on an extension at that point, but I don't think the Jays have any plans on doing that and other teams know it.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 26, 2019 Posted July 26, 2019 Of course. But to say the Jays have 'zero leverage' is wrong. Zero additional leverage using the 'we'll extend him' threat. Everyone knows that won't happen.

You are placing far more importance on this than is warranted. I don't know if I can overstate how little what Stroman says publicly matters in regards to his trade value. You guys are seriously chicken littling and it's annoying. Cut this s*** out.

There's no Chicken Little going on. The point is, he's getting dealt in the next few days. They're not gonna wait cause his value goes down. They're not gonna extend him cause Stro has already said there's been zero interest. This additional posturing is just a waste of time and makes no difference.

Is this your contention? Because if it is, it's f***ing retarded.
