BleacherReport has posted some hypothetical Stroman trades:

If the Padres or the Twins actually offer that, accept, and then hang up the telephone.

The Twins and Padres packages are far too heavy and I don't see the Braves selling Inciarte before a playoff run, and the NY and Boston packages are too light IMO

I don't like it that much because there's no real impact player/prospect, but it's two 45s, a 35+/40 and a player coming off consecutive 3.5 win seasons who's controllable under 2022, projects as an average hitter, can play a good 3B and an average 2B. It's really not as bad as you guys think.

You try and use players like Oh to acquire 40/45 players, like Wall. You use Stroman to try and get a potential impact player and some smaller pieces on top. I'd much rather quality than quantity in that move, with the depth they've built...and they still have more time to add to the system before they're ready to compete. Giles, at the very least, should be able to get two 45s if they can't get a top 100 player for him. I mean according to Fangraphs, the 132nd ranked prospect has a FV of 50.

Teams are too scared to make win-now moves with so many other teams in contention. And your prize is a one game playoff.

Of course there is an easy solution. Just make the regular season shorter and add more playoff teams/games like every other sport. More teams in contention, more transactions, more fan interest, less tanking. More money for the win-now vets who were crying all year because more teams are now trying to win. Seems like a win-win all around.

You got the Giants on a sick heater, in a great market, but their head of ops is a friggin quant so he knows the smart thing is to probably NOT go for it and instead sell. The dynamics of the sport are all just completely off IMO.

But wait, hold on, I think in order to increase interest we should first try ingenious innovations like stealing first base. Ya that's it.

This has been my stance for quite a while. Reduce the season to 150 games, add a round to the playoffs, eliminate the wildcard, and have each round best of 7. Attendance would probably go up 20% across the league.

Stick to your guns, someone will get desperate close to the deadline. There's not that many good arms available this year.

Atkins public comments on Stroman. We're trading him because of cultural reasons. He's a bad clubhouse guy and we're desperate to trade him. Yeah, you might not want to get those expectations too high. Someone is going to get desperate, but it's likely going to be the nerd who called him a clubhouse cancer.

Are you talking about the discussion by Tim from Tim and Sid? There's no way Shitkins would even imply that whilst Stroman is on the trading block.

I think Stroman's teammates probably like him and his personality a lot more than posters here do even if he calls himself the glue. He's a gamer, always gives props to his teammates, and cheers them on even during a tanking season. Contrast that with someone like Sanchez who is not nearly as outspoken but seems like much more of a douchebag.

I don't know why Stro is so hated here. No doubt responding to a random fan's tweet is a bit much, but baseball needs more players like him.

The straw that stirs the drink.

Nope.

okay...sentiment leaked through the media....the gig is up. Management and Stroman can't stand each other. Couples counselling will not work. Every GM in the league knows this. The idea that we're only trading Stroman if we get a really great offer is a facade. We're going to take the best offer we get. Hopefully we can get a couple teams in a bidding war so we get a good return.

So don't trade Stro to the Yankees, Shatkins.

This scares me.

I really want one of Balazovic/Graterol in a deal for Stro, or Giles.

Jays should extend Stroman and use Bichette in a package for Bauer

With stroman bauer and pearson along with the position player they might actually have a chance

While they're at it send Vladdy to the Mets for Syndergaard too.

I hope this is a joke.

Well there was a rumor that Shapiro "scolded" AA in 2015 for trading so many prospects away for a one year window, so if anything, I would think any bad blood would come from AA, not from the Jays. Not that I think either side would avoid trading with each other. If both teams' needs are met by trading with each other I'm sure it wouldn't be a big deal, but I don't see why the Jays would care at all. Unless Rogers holds a grudge for him turning down their offer or something petty like that.

Regardless, yes, let's get some damn trades happening.

At the end of the day, it's a business, so the original rumor was clearly B.S... But honestly, I could imagine it affecting negotiations a little bit

To me there is too much uncertainty to pull the trigger early unless we're blown away. The way the NL is shaping up just play it out to the deadline.

And on the other side, it may stop teams offering a ransom if they think they can get an even better pitcher in a couple of weeks. So many changing parameters - working out trades really isn't as easy as we all wish it was.

A risk is that Stro gets hurt in his next start and a full value return is pissed away.

There is risk no matter what stance they take.

I just saw this. I raised the question in the General Jays Discussion thread if the Jays even play Stroman tonight.

Agreed. Stro or Giles could get hurt, their performance might fall off (see Happ's July last year), etc. Also the sooner a trade happens, the more control the receiving team gets. It won't mean much now, but two more Stroman starts if he's traded before tonight could mean something to the team acquiring him.

There is no right answer, but risk by holding too long is definitely big. Teams are not stupid anymore. There are no AA 2013-15 GM's anymore. What teams are offering now is probably what they'll offer a week from now, at least the bigger names.
