Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I'm sure some teams will still look to him but could definitely boost Stroman stocks. Shoulder fatigue is so vague.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Helps the Stroman value a little bit, now they need to get rid of him before the same thing happens The Braves just lost their set-up man in Webb... also good for a Giles destination.
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 MLB Network - JP Morosi hypothetical trade: To Houston Robbie Ray To Arizona Forrest Whitley Derek Fisher J.B Bukauskas
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 The one guy almost assuredly not getting moved in the Astro's system is Whitley.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 MLB Network - JP Morosi hypothetical trade: To Houston Robbie Ray To Arizona Forrest Whitley Derek Fisher J.B Bukauskas That's an absurd haul for Robbie Ray, the Astros would do much better than that for those assets, even with Whitley's stock being tanked this season.
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 s*** I'd give them Stroman + Giles just for this gas can version of Whitley.
AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 I'd like to know who you dudes think is a realistic main piece coming back. We know it's not going to be a Lewis, Whitley, Tucker, Kiriloff, etc. I personally think the most realistic best option is Graterol at the moment.
jaysguy44 Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Posted July 15, 2019 Morosi figures the Jays should be able to get back a top 5 prospect in the team's system for Giles. Is that what you guys expect?
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted July 15, 2019 Author Posted July 15, 2019 Morosi figures the Jays should be able to get back a top 5 prospect in the team's system for Giles. Is that what you guys expect? If he were completely healthy then yes, absolutely. He needs to re-establish his health and put up some dominant performances over the next two weeks.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Absolutely. However, it's all relative as there are some teams with monstrous farm systems. If you trade Giles to the Braves, Rays or Padres, you can get two top 10 prospects that would be in the top 5 for most teams. The Rays just traded a top 10-12 prospect for a minor league reliever with 2 TJs. Yeah agreed, it really depends on the farm system. A top 5 prospect on a s***** farm system really doesn't mean much, but the 10th prospect in a stacked system might be the equivalent of a top 5. Either way a healthy Giles should be able to fetch at least one legit top 100 prospect plus a lotto ticket or two. Of course he needs to be healthy and pitching. Cross fingers.

I wonder if they'd do something like McCullers and Martin? McCullers is approximately equal to Stroman, but has an extra year of control (some of that will likely be burned from TJS recovery). Martin will likely miss all of 2020, but is roughly MLB ready when he does return in 2021. Seems fairly reasonable. We could pay the salary difference between Stroman and McCullers (which isn't much) if needed.

Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 I expect at least 1 top 100 pitching prospect for each Not a guy in rookie ball Not another reclamation project Solid blue chip price
Brownie19 Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 The one guy almost assuredly not getting moved in the Astro's system is Whitley. Why is that? Just because Cole is a FA next year? I'd assume they'd protect Tucker more.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Ewwwwwww... too much risk, man. Meh, Martin is one of their ~top 5 prospects, so you're basically getting Martin and an extra year of Stroman's equivalent for Stroman. I mean, I'd love to pry a legit top 10 prospect from someone, but I doubt it'll happen. If those guys are off limits, this is something that would be worth accepting rather than just keeping Stro or getting some low wildcards imo.

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Helps the Stroman value a little bit, now they need to get rid of him before the same thing happens LOL not even a Raptors championship has done anything to alleviate the negativity and paranoia surrounding Toronto sports teams being cursed. I for one think the Jays should lock Stroman up in a Cryogenic tank until he's traded. He is literally a 100% certainty to have a Joel Zumaya or Dave Dravecky moment at any time.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 That's a better return than I would have expected.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 For those that don't want to look, it's Mike Montgomery going the other way.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 And Contreras goes down with an injury. Spooky!
Barkerfan23 Verified Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 2 weeks to the trade deadline. A single injury to Stroman will ensure that he has no trade value. Should trade him this week and get a good prospect Any team interested at the end of July is interested now.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 The waiting is the hardest part... cue the Tom Petty
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 It's been reported by The Athletic that the Jays are seeking an Archer-like return (Glasnow, Meadows, Baz) for Stroman.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Was the Glasnow/Meadows package even viewed favorably at the time? Obviously in hindsight it looks like a heist as Tampa turned them around almost instantly and turned them into much more valuable players than they were showing in Pittsburgh. It will be very hard to duplicate that. Tampa could probably take members of this forum and turn them into 2 WAR players. Their player development is excellent.

Yeah it's hard to know if they're talking about the current, post trade value....or what they were at the time, which was a pair of once very highly regarded prospects who seemed to fizzle out in AAA and/or their first few shots at the ML level. Obviously both are very talented, but they were both viewed somewhat as reclamation projects (guys who needed a fresh start) at the time of the trade.

With the beautiful mansions on the bay, multiple boating and water-sports opportunities, great Cuban food, high-quality strippers and no state tax, I am pretty sure Tampa could make me a consistent 5 WAR player...
Laika Community Moderator Posted July 16, 2019 Posted July 16, 2019 Was the Glasnow/Meadows package even viewed favorably at the time? Depends who you asked. Most people would have still considered Meadows to be quite valuable in context... I think he was actually performing well for Pittsburgh that year. Lots thought of Glasnow as a bit of a dumpster fire though. It would be similar to getting Frazier + someone like Jonathan Loaisiga or maybe Jordan Montgomery from the Yankees.
