saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 The only "kids" that are playing are Jansen, Vlad and McKinney if you even count him. Not sure what you're on about. Also, there's nothing wrong with them playing at AAA. Gurriel is in his 2nd full season, Teoscar is in his second full season. There are plenty of young players. Smoak and Morales are both gone at the end of the year. They will be doing their absolute best to move them in season and could very well find a taker for smoak bringing in another young player like Tellez. Last time I checked Luciano would be considered a kid by most. I'm not sure what you're on about. Do you actually think the Jays are going to compete this year?
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 It would be one thing if we had any chance at competing, but we don't. If we had a chance to compete, I'd be all for Gio. There are plenty of shitballers to eat innings if we have a rash of injuries in the rotation. We can't go through the season without Borucki and Reid foley getting significant playing time. Behind that there's Merryweather Panonne, Zeuch etc. If the young pitchers are performing well then we can find ways to get them innings. It's not as if a guy like Richard or Buchholz can't be moved. What will hurt the young pitchers is if we force them into situations that they aren't ready for by not having enough veteran depth.
Frag Verified Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 He provides SP depth, but I hope there's room for Borucki. He was one of the few bright spots of last year's team, and showed promise as a #3-4 starter in the future.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Borucki is going to break a lot of hearts in the next couple years. I think he is a #4/5 at best. It's good that Toronto is not gifting him a 30 start rotation spot.

Yeah, but with the lack of SP talent currently on the team, and the fact that this is a rebuild year, 2019 is a good time to see how he does over a full season of work.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Buttholes. I've always called him Sucholz
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted March 1, 2019 Posted March 1, 2019 Yeah it's not like we have any pitchers with injury concerns. Who needs depth? Hahahaha... love it!

I was only pointing out your comment about kids. Teoscar sucks and isn't young and will also likely be on the bench Gurriel will be on the bench or in AAA Two doesn't qualify as "plenty" Smoak, Morales, Travis, Galvis, Pillar, Grichuk are all penciled in as starters right now. That's 6/9 in the lineup.

That's 6/9 in the lineup. Gurriel most certainly will not be on the bench or AAA, wtf is this take? He's going to be playing all over the field with regularity to start the season, guaranteed.

He's going to be playing all over the field with regularity to start the season, guaranteed. Perhaps. I don't think it's unfair to say he isn't penciled in as a starter right now, though. I wasn't commenting on whether anyone should or shouldn't be playing, just the incorrect narrative that there are kids at every position.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I can't believe that there are people who are offended at the idea of the Jays' pitching non-prospects not getting full time in the majors this year. I hope the Jays sign three more pitchers at Bucholz level or better, ideally much better (Keuchel).
The Iceman Verified Member Posted March 2, 2019 Posted March 2, 2019 I always screamed at the TV watching Clay when he was with Boston pitching against Toronto going to his hair. Looked like he had a wad of slippery in his mullet

FrozenRopes Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 The pitching staff, and depth, are not looking like quite the disaster it looked like this morning. Might have a .500 team after all. I'm guessing 74 wins.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Smith DFA for Buch. ! would have preferred Davis.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Smith DFA for Buch. ! would have preferred Davis. A bit surprised here. I would have expected Davis or Pompey to be above Smith on the chopping block.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Smith can't play CF and drills everything into the ground. Pompey and Davis can play CF. That might have been the difference.
Todd Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Jays make mistake again. Designating Dwight Smith. Wrong player again. Should have come down to Pompey or Alford.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Jays make mistake again. Designating Dwight Smith. Wrong player again. Should have come down to Pompey or Alford. You just really hate Alford lol. That would have been monumentally stupid. Davis or Smith was the right call. Would have preferred Davis got DFA'd personally.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 A bit surprised here. I would have expected Davis or Pompey to be above Smith on the chopping block. They seem to be giving Pompey every chance to prove himself. It seems like he plays most games in ST. Rarely see Davis. Having said that, I see that Davis has played in 2 more games than Pompey, he must be getting road starts that I don't see.
Todd Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 OVERRATED. In the same place as Dalton Pompey. Good just not good enough. And Team is a lot deeper then what it was say two years ago. And will be even deeper after this years Draft and International free agent signings. Question What is Anthony Alford. Is he a power hitter? Is he a batting average hitter? Is he a base stealer? Is he a good outfielder? Does he have a strong arm? Is he a gap hitter? After five or more years the jays should know what he is. As of right now a dud. And other people are starting to see it to. As by the top 30's that are coming out.Or Top 40's or 50's. Just take them longer to see it.
Maico450 Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Alford has played 3 seasons in the minor leagues. He has not done anything to make the team give up on him. Just 24 and still a lot of upside, No Dud.
Laika Community Moderator Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 A bit surprised here. I would have expected Davis or Pompey to be above Smith on the chopping block. Not me. Smith Jr. seems like he has the most limited skill-set. I would peg him as the least likely to provide any major league value, ever.

Is he a batting average hitter: He showed the ability to hit for average at Lansing and New hamphire. It hasn't been consistent. Is he a base stealer: Has the raw ability... Is he a good outfielder: I'll defer to others. My understanding is he is. Strong arm: Not sure Gap hitter: You mean like Paul Molitor or Devon White, or maybe Bo Bichett?? Like a guy with 40 doubles and 15-20 homers??
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 Smith isn't a bad org guy to have he was just so limited physically that his ceiling was extremely low. He only had 1 option year left as well so if it wasn't this year it was going to be next. Pompey and Davis are simply better to keep around. When Norris is added we will have to lose someone else too though. Phelps could go to the 60 day DL which is probably the best option but I'm not entirely sure when he's going to be ready to pitch. Does anyone know?
Todd Verified Member Posted March 5, 2019 Posted March 5, 2019 That is ********. This will be his 5 or 6 full year. Drafted 2012. First two part time. Do the math.
