Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Holy s***, nicely done Padres... although I think they went well over expectations from other teams.
Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 With 300M now, how much lazier will Machado be
BTS Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Surprised they had to include an opt-out with a 300M guarantee.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 With 300M now, how much lazier will Machado be It's possible he could play harder, now that he doesn't have to worry if he gets injured. It's also possible he goes the Hanley Ramirez route.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Perfect fit tbh. Does he go back to 3B to allow Tatis to play SS? Or vice versa? Will be interesting to see, considering Manny sees himself as a SS.
Carlos Danger Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Nobody should sign a contract for anything for 10 years.. Not even a wife... I guess the price to pay to get him for 5 or less decent years..

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 There is something oddly satisfying about this deal. He gets paid but he gets to rot on a perpetually mediocre franchise. Meanwhile, he stays away from a contending AL team. It does make sense for them given their farm, but I'm sure the Padres will find a way to screw it up.

Yeah as much of a douche as he is it sure will be nice to not have to face Machado in the AL East (i.e. on the Yankees) for the foreseeable future.
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 What the f*** is going on? Lol Padres
Laika Community Moderator Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Sure, Manny Machado is good at baseball but I think what everyone is overlooking here and what the Padres are probably most attracted to is the veteran presence he can bring to this yung organisashinkrjbijreerngkrejngkerjngtjknkjhnkerehkerewjhrewj kerhewjkrhwekjrhewhrjkkerhewjrnjknvfcujdnuivhoiweruj8932ur4893 2weujwefnh989f2n uincvn v89rhj2893r23 whrieuwhnrfewirf89023rh292rnu32jrjkmwnbfjhbfweoirhuj290r123ui4rj9io2urnfiwdns
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Vetrin presents from an ******* who doesn't care about winning whatsoever
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Absolutely beautiful. The only better landing spot would’ve been Miami
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Absolutely beautiful. The only better landing spot would’ve been Miami Lol, could you imagine someone trying to convince Jeter to give 300M to a guy who doesn't believe in playing hard?
Slade Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I wonder if the Padre's would now look back at Stroman, that move would make a lot of sense now. So many good prospects too.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Author Posted February 19, 2019 Give me Logan Allen and Tirso Ornelas for Stroman and I'll call that a great day.

So many good prospects too. I doubt it. Their window probably starts in 2 years, or would if Preller manages to not screw it up.

Manny is young enough to still be good 2-4 years from now when their prospects are up, so if they are interested in Stro, it probably won't be for their best prospects. Still, trading Stro for 2-3 of their 12-20 ranked prospects would probably be worth it (those guys would be top 10 in other systems) but whether they have any reason to is a different story.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Padres still in on Harper as well?
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Give me Logan Allen and Tirso Ornelas for Stroman and I'll call that a great day. If I'm Ross, I'm going balls to the wall for Paddack
Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 I doubt it. Their window probably starts in 2 years, or would if Preller manages to not screw it up. Hurl brought up 2013 AA which I think could fit Preller. He's tried (and failed) to cobble together a competitive roster in one offseason before.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted February 19, 2019 Posted February 19, 2019 Padres still in on Harper as well? Yeah, apparently.
jaysfan2014 Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 Padres still in on Harper as well? Doubtful--it's Philly or Chicago (White Sox) for him, as the Dodgers and Yankees have both said they will not sign him due to money and his bad OF defense.
saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted February 20, 2019 Posted February 20, 2019 If I'm Ross, I'm going balls to the wall for Paddack hard to imagine the Padres trading Paddack for Stroman.
