TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Sanchez comes up in the 11th with 1 on 1 out sitting 0-4 with 4ks...and ends the game with a double play.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Thanks for the edit lol. Alvarado just threw a filthy 94 mph slider(?) to put Hicks away. It was easier to correct it directly.
TheHurl Site Manager Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Harper just hit a 480+ HR edit. Official statcast was 466 ft and 115 MPH exit velo.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 Perez really changes up his delivery out there on the mound.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 It's sad to see how bad Miguel Castro is with his stuff. AA completely ruined his career by rushing him trying to save his job.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2019 Posted May 18, 2019 One of those outliers in right field must be Tellez and his 505 foot bomb.

I guess we might as well but a coffin for Elvis Luciano too. He's not ready yet is here. No coming back from that.

Luciano's situation is much different. He'll certainly be back in the minors next season or this year if the Jays return him, and he is never being put in to high leverage spots. The Rockies had a chance to develop Castro from the ground up after they acquired him but decided to keep going with him as a reliever in AAA. It's a long shot anyway but at least the Jays are attempting to develop Luciano instead of throwing him into to the fire.

The Jays called him up early, but there were plenty of opportunities to slow things down, send him down, and continue his development. To lay this at the feet of AA alone is a little disingenuous.

And they didn't do that. They rushed him up into a high leverage situation in a contending year and then bailed on him and sent him packing in the Tulo deal. That egregious mishandling of what seemed like a promising prospect is almost entirely AA's fault.

Because if he does, going 1/2 on turning A ball pitching prospects into stars is a pretty f***ing awesome developmental rate.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted May 19, 2019 Author Posted May 19, 2019 The Angels are warming up, 2.5 games out of a wildcard with Trout and Ohtani hitting back to back in the lineup. They definitely need some pitching though. Another potential trade partner for Stroman?

I doubt the 3 weeks he spent in the Jays bullpen ruined his career. As for the Rockies and Orioles keeping him in the pen, Castro was always projected to be a bullpen arm with his delivery. If anyone might have been hurt career-wise in 2015 it was Osuna, who had the repertoire to start but pitched too well to move out of the bullpen.

He was rushed by AA and traded, yes...but then once in another orgnization, they had opportunities to send him down and slow down his dvelopment as well. They didn't do that either.

No. We're only allowed to point out the things that AA touched that didn't work out.

metafour Verified Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 Dwight Smith Jr. with the Golden Sombrero. wRC+ down to 107 going into today (and will be lower tomorrow). Defense grading out at a huge negative. BB and K rates completely pedestrian. No OBP to speak of. LOL @ all the clowns jumping around a few weeks ago as if we'd given up an All-Star. He'll end the season as a 4th outfielder type...just as expected.

Reminds me when Brett Walrus was tearing up the league for like 1 month in 2011 and a *bunch of people on the old board were losing their s***. Despite every indication that he was going to crash down to earth, which he did. *the board idiots

glory Old-Timey Member Posted May 20, 2019 Posted May 20, 2019 I think the only fair point people made with DSJ was he might end up as good or better than Teoscar and McKinney, but all three of them probably suck, so it's not a huge accomplishment either way.

Successful organizations don't agonize over fringe players like McKinney and Dwight Smith. This is similar to the choice between Danny Valencia and Chris Colabello during the playoff run.

5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 21, 2019 Posted May 21, 2019 Now a triple from Smith. I've watched him quite a bit this year, It actually looks like he can handle the bat. He might be a decent piece for the O's.
