Since they traded Dwight Smith Jr and became a regular he has more production than any of the Jays players on their roster. He would lead this team in BA, HR's and RBi's and played some solid defense at times with some spectacular plays looks like the Blue Jays might of screwed up on this guy. The real sad part is they let him go for nothing future considerations sometime one has to really wonder what the front office was thinking about.

These things sometimes happen around the league with odd men out and the only thing you can do is tip your hat to the other club. In this case, I feel like it's more of a blunder just because of how poorly the majority of the roster is playing.

There's a strong chance that Smith ends the year with a higher WAR than Grichuk, McKinney, Teoscar, Drury, Jansen ETC. It's that fact alone that really magnify's the decision to cut DSJ loose.

They chose Pompey over DSJ, but Pompey got hurt and then Davis got hurt so they had to trade for Brito once they traded Pillar. In hindsight they could have dropped Pompey and kept DSJ, but unfortunately I don't think Shatkins valued Smith at all, and probably would not have played him over McKinney or Teocar. Pompey probably would have played CF after Pillar was moved, but he got hurt again.

Apparently after scratching their starting pitcher a little while ago, the Yankees have decided that the field is too wet to attempt to play today. Sounds ... convenient.

The OF in Left was soaked mate from when they pulled the tarp off, it was the umpire and field crew, that ultimately called it. Loaisiga was shut down for 4 weeks though, shoulder injury... :P

The Yankees have so many injuries but are still a great team. Unreal. It's bad enough competing with the Rays who could turn everyone they acquire into stars at 50 cents on the dollar, but the Yankees can have their entire 25 roster get hurt and still nearly lead the division.

Rebuild will be hard.

You'll see video of it.....the OF was a mess. They even had an aerator out there (which I assume would simply help the water infiltrate faster?)

How long will the Rays keep Brendan McKay in the minors? Could he be a late season add to their pen (ala D.Price)? Guy is tearing up the minors.

Stop ruining a good narrative

The Freddy Peralta experience is a bit hectic at times but god he's fun to watch when he's keeping the ball around the strikezone consistently.

Few pitchers can make hitters be so late on fastballs around 90-92, although he can ramp it up to 95-96 when he needs to.

Pompey was already hurt, he got his concussion in spring training. They must have known that they were going to transfer him to the 60 day IL (which they did a couple of days after the Smith DFA). Thus creating another roster spot and when Pompey is eventually back more spaces will have been created by trades.

They could also have promoted Alford instead of trading for Brito.

I will never get tired of posting videos of Ohtani!

According to the peanut gallery the Rays ARE NOT turning everyone they acquire into stars at 50 cents on the dollar., the coaching staff and analytics department have no effect on players performance, that's on the players. YOU MY FRIEND ARE AN IDIOT. GO EAT A LUNCH BOX AND BUGGER OFF.

(Not my insult, that's the peanut gallerie's insult)

In all fairness the Rays may be just starting with more talented players. It certainly seems that the Rays (through a quarter season this year) turn mediocre players into useful pieces, and the Jays turn them into .260 on base percentage players.

However the data may not tell that story if we looked at it closely

I ask you this... Given Danny Jansen on the Rays would he have a .250 on base percentage or would their anlaytics, coaching staff, and front office be able to better help him reach his potential?

Mike Zunino still can't hit in Tampa.

Good move by Dodgers to let him walk

Good move to let a catcher who has 4.5+ WAR each of the last 4 seasons walk, for the price of a qualifying offer? His replacements on the Dodgers have combined for half as much value as he's provided this season already, and the projections have him continuing to provide an additional 3.5 WAR RoS, which is more than Austin Barnes and Russell Martin combined.

I should have put a question mark on my sentence :)

Huh? He's arguably been one of the best catchers the last 4-5 years... and's on his way to another huge year.

Godammit Org!

holy s*** - I just saw what his adjusted DEF value has been. 20+ over each of the last 4 years. He must frame like a mother f***er because his blocking technique is bloody awful.

Domingo Santana has a 132 wRC+ over 192 PAs. Fantastic right, a steal by the M's to acquire such a valuable player? Well, unfortunately he has -9 DRS and -8.7 UZR in LF, which makes him the worst defender in baseball by a mile and craters his value provided to only 0.2 WAR. Get this man out of the outfield FFS.

They had EE hurt his wrist attempting to play 2B for the first time in his career. No mystery why they are far and away leading the league in errors, team full of DH's.
