Spanky__99 Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 It's a bit surprising to see that kind of language in the middle of an offseason that has a good chance to set the all-time record for FA spending. Yeah, it's as Abom said doesn't fit his narrative.
Deadpool Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 I'm pretty surprised that he got an MLB deal, good for him though!
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 Cherington must like something about him.

Jimcanuck Old-Timey Member Posted December 16, 2019 Posted December 16, 2019 It's a wonderful irony that all of the left wing baseball twitter pinkos basically hate the poor teams. BTS really likes the Rays.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Good for Maile for getting himself a guaranteed deal.
P2F Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'd way prefer Miley over Roark at their respective deals.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'd way prefer Miley over Roark at their respective deals. Same Jays had to overpay to get someone to sign
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Something like 30, 20 15, 15 is palatable for Ryu
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 2/15 for Miley makes the Roark deal look better. I don't think we overpaid at all.
Ray Verified Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 It’s surprising to hear so little mentioned about Ken Giles this offseason. I bet you could get something really good for him in this market.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'd way prefer Miley over Roark at their respective deals. Meh, Miley is worse and a lot less reliable for innings and performance. I don't think this deal at all changes how we should feel about Roark.
BTS Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Apparently Betances is hoping to get 1/10. Toronto should be aggressively pursuing him at that price range. A healthy Betances returns more than 10M in prospect capital at the deadline.

A healthy Betances returns more than 10M in prospect capital at the deadline. Yeah it's a good risk. They have the payroll space to take the risk. If he's good and healthy they could trade him at the deadline and elite relievers tend to get good returns. If he likes Toronto and he's good and healthy maybe he sticks around. I wonder if he would sign a deal that guaranteed him 1/$10M if it comes with a team option for year two.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 I'd way prefer Miley over Roark at their respective deals. Agreed. Similar talents but the Miley deal is way more team friendly. That said TO is a tough sell right now, especially for pitchers and in order to get him here we would have had to beat that offer which pushes it closer to Roarl territory anyway.

Anyone here anything else?
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 Might even be able to get Betances for a bit less after a lost year. Definitely a worthy gamble in that range and one of the better upside buys remaining.
G-Snarls Community Moderator Posted December 17, 2019 Posted December 17, 2019 The Cardinals have struck a deal with Korean pitcher Kwang-hyun Kim, according to Derrick Goold of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch

The Brewers have struck a deal with veteran infielder Eric Sogard, according to Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). It’s said to be a one-year arrangement with an option for another.

Laika Community Moderator Posted December 18, 2019 Posted December 18, 2019 Chance Adams DFA'd by the Yanks. He was a really interesting sleeper arm a couple of years ago but it hasn't worked in MLB or in AAA the last two years. Kind of reminds me of SRF. Pretty sure he has an option. Has never really been given the chance to just be a reliever other than the 20 innings in the MLB in 2019. I'd take him in the pen over some of the current dudes with options.
