Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 TSN's title sounds like Stroman would refuse Jays lol. Very misleading. Exactly. Like he even has a choice in the matter.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 10, 2019 Posted July 10, 2019 At this point it seems pretty clear that either the Jays and Stroman are far apart in dollars/term, or the Jays simply don't want him long term. A trade is inevitable, but still a bit surprising that Stro would be so open about it.

Ex Player Verified Member Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 I pretty much knew Stro was gone a month or 2 ago. And so will be Giles probably. How on earth are we gonna replace these 2 guys, and keep the rebuild going is beyond me

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2019 Author Posted July 11, 2019 Trade about to be announced?
BTS Community Moderator Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Trade about to be announced? Or he’s just being a massive attention whore.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Or he’s just being a massive attention whore. This is exactly what's happening. He'll obviously be moved at this point, but Stroman has been very petty and childish about the whole situation.

glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Trade about to be announced? I doubt it since he hasn't pitched in a while due to injury. Teams will want to see him healthy before making a deal. Just seems like he (like everyone else) knows he is going to be traded soon and is just cleansing his social media of any ties to the org.

Todd Verified Member Posted July 11, 2019 Posted July 11, 2019 Question. Do you trade Stroman and Giles together. Or bye them self's. To get more in return. Together maybe get four or five players back. Bye them self's possible four players for each. Any ideas.

Together maybe get four or five players back. Bye them self's possible four players for each. Any ideas. Giles/Stroman together would definitely bring back a better calibre prospect as the centerpiece (i.e. 1 of Kiriloff, Lewis, Tucker, Whitley). Separately, you may be looking a Top 50-100 guy or 2 for each of them + maybe an interesting throw in. BPA would definitely be brought back by packaging them together, but at the same time, you should always look to horde when it comes to prospects. It's an interesting dilemma for sure.

There's a point where you have a better chance of getting elite talent out of quantity. For example, 3 players with a 10% chance of being elite over 1 player with a 25% chance. We shoulf be open to any kind of deal.
L54 Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 I'd way rather move them together if it meant getting someone like Kyle Tucker, Alex Krilioff etc. Probably end up with a pretty good second and third pieces too Tucker is like a dream fit for this team. LHH OF who immediately slots into the top of the order Bichette Tucker Biggio Vlad LGJ Fap

AintNoThang Verified Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 I think y'all will be disappointed with the return Stroman gets. There's multiple pitchers available on Stroman's level. Nobody is going to overpay for him.

Nobody is going to overpay for him. Like who? MadBum is a rental and probably not as good. Matthew Boyd may or may not be on the block. Everybody else is a rental or not on the same level or probably not even on the block. There are multiple, multiple contenders needing starting pitchers.

I think the issue is teams know he'll be traded. I don't think they'll overpay to pry him away. I think they'll offer a mediocre package for him, and if they don't get him they'll either trade lesser prospects for MadBum, Wheeler, or Minor. Or pay more to acquire a Bauer, Syndergaard, or even Matt Boyd (who I think will turn back to the turd of a pitcher he used to be).
glory Old-Timey Member Posted July 12, 2019 Posted July 12, 2019 Atkins seems like someone who would favor depth over banking on one guy. Not necessarily quantity over quality, but I think he'd rather spread the risk a little bit. I'm basing that off nothing. I suspect the Jays will trade Stro and Giles separately and get at least six prospects out of the deal. Hopefully at least two of them, one in each trade, is a legit top 100 prospect with upside. More would obviously be better. I think Balazovic is a real possibility in one of the deals.

Not mutually exclusive. The quantity you get back could be good quality. Either way, I don't expect teams are willing to part with their elite prospects for Stroman. Trading Kyle Tucker away for Marcus Stroman would be a waste of Tuckers prospect value. Imagine another team asking for Bo Bichette for 1.5 years of Marcus Stroman. We'd probably hang up the phone laughing.

Imagine another team asking for Bo Bichette for 1.5 years of Marcus Stroman. We'd probably hang up the phone laughing. There must be a non-linearity in prospect value. Or at least that is the way the market seems to behave. You would think if the Jays want Tucker, they can offer Stroman + another prospect to even out the value. However I can't recall ever seeing a trade like that. For example a "Stroman + X for Tucker" type trade never happens. Say X=Conine. I guess Conine given age, level and strikeout rate, has value way below Tucker. Bichette has value = to tucker, but Jays of course wouldn't do Stroman + Bichette for Tucker. Logically one would think there is an 'X' somewhere between Conine and Bichette, that would make "Stroman + X" = Tucker. However that type of trade never happens.
