BTS Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 I thought Law had options and was going to AAA? He doesn’t have options, but he cleared waivers after being DFA’d.
tercet Verified Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Maybe stupid question but will the Jays FO/Coaching staff tell Gurribabip to change his approach and not swing at everything? Or will they let him and not bug him bc his approach/style got him to the majors..

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Sanchez and Bauer in near freezing weather tonight, lol. Bet the under.

Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Alford and SRF optioned to Buffalo.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Interested to see how Brito's defense looks. I think he has a shot at being a good fourth outfielder.

He ranked #10 last year in sprint speed. Apparently has a 60 arm as well. Weak bat but he bats left handed so his Steamer projected 84 wRC+ could play up over the course of a season if he rarely bats against lefties. Does anyone know if he made any adjustments last year? He hit the ball well in AAA after being pretty mediocre at nearly every level before that. Maybe there's more to his bat than we've seen so far.

LD% went from 17.6% in 2017 to 26% in 2018. Also cut his GB% from 43% to 36%. Actually last season was the first time his GB% has ever been below 40% in his entire career. 140 wRC+ and .400 wOBA in 478 PA. Still only 26. Could be intriguing.

Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 Tonight's lineup is going to be ugly. Must mean Hanson makes his debut at 2B then.
Bobthe4th Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Author Posted April 4, 2019 Not sure why they don't move Tellez to 1B and have Hernandez at DH, but ho hum.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Hopefully that sore neck is due to his excitement of being dealt to Colorado. LGJ at first base is weird.
Spanky99 Old-Timey Member Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 Tonight's lineup is going to be ugly. 1. Brandon Drury ® 3B 2. Socrates Brito (L) RF 3. Randal Grichuk ® CF 4. BTS Community Moderator Posted April 4, 2019 Posted April 4, 2019 This team hasn’t faced a good starter yet and have been utterly dominated by opposing pitching staffs. Now they have to face a top-5 pitcher in the AL.

Stoneyen Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Gotta love opening ESPN to see this "Add Trevor Bauer to the list of pitchers who have taken no-hit bids deep into a game against the Blue Jays this season. The Indians starter is working on a no-no through six innings, already the fourth time this year a pitcher has carried a no-hitter into the sixth against Toronto."
Todd Verified Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Really think that the batting order is just not being set up right.
Grant77 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 I can't recall ever seeing a worse offense from the Blue Jays than this current team. It's too bad that we had to punt the season so badly. I feel like a rebuild could put slightly more emphasis on the current without sacrificing any of the future with short term deals and whatnot.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 Really think that the batting order is just not being set up right. Yes Todd, that's the problem. Order matters so much when you are getting literally zero hits.
Laika Community Moderator Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 So Socrates Brito seems like a disaster at the plate. As does Hanson. Tons of fun here in Blue Jay land.

gruber92 Old-Timey Member Posted April 5, 2019 Posted April 5, 2019 You'd figure by trading Pillar it would open up a clearer outlook on what we have in our outfield moving forward, including Alford and possibly Pompey. Instead Shatkins trades a decent young lottery ticket for an older two time DFA champion, at bats him second no less in his first game in 10 days. Shouldn't it be home grown Alford getting the playing time while Brito is in Buffalo for at least a few weeks?

No idea why so many people are torn up about him being in the minors. I get this season doesn't matter, but what's the point of trying to get water from a stone? Alford will provide AAA depth probably for the rest of his career. Also, where "decent young lottery ticket" = fringe org top 50 prospect.

Or they want to see what they have in Brito for a month, call up Alford when need be, they're smarter than you, gruber. Stupid thing to complain about, honestly.
