John_Havok Old-Timey Member Posted May 11, 2018 Posted May 11, 2018 He'd have an even higher WAR just keeping his ugly ass parked on the bench. I'm forced to point out he still actually has positive baserunning value right now.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 OK. He's up to 715 PA of s*** since coming here. It's May 17th, and his wRC+ is 30. This is not a major league player, and it's time to drop the axe.
Laika Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Kevin Pillar's SLG is higher than Kendrys Morales' OPS $33 million for -1.4 WAR and counting down extremely quickly cut cut cut cut cut
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Yeah, I'm usually patient as f***, but even if his bat fully recovers you're still talking about someone who's only a marginally better hitter at best than our other bench options (especially when Pearce returns), and he offers no defensive capabilities. There's really no reason to have him here anymore.

5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Morales should have been cut after last season... Seeing the better options that were available for next to nothing make Morales hurt even more. The Nats got Mark Reynolds on a minor league contract. Would way rather have a guy like that.
z3r0s Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 the worst part about watching Morales is him on the bases. Guy is slower than my 60 year old father.

Yeah it was a really terrible off season to be tied to a guy like Morales because there were all kinds of more affordable and attractive options available throughout the winter.

I rather give his at bats to Alford, Pompey, Jansen. At least those plate appearances would be an investment towards their development and this organization’s future. Morales has no future here.
CrackerJack Verified Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 maybe Kendrys should try putting more tape on his fingers?

Geezus. The thought was that he hit the ball hard...so work on his launch angle and we've got a stud. Instead he can't do anything but pound the ball into the ground.
5ToolPhenom Verified Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Is Morales the most expensive free agent that Atkins has signed? He's gotta be worried about the optics of releasing his highest paid acquisition. That's the only logical explanation at this point.

Just don't hear about it because he's been worth every penny and then some.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 didn't AA sign happ? Morales can't possible be around much longer, hes objectively terrible. No, Happ pitched for Seattle and Pittsburgh in 2015, then Shatkins signed him in November of 2016.
Abomination Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 didn't AA sign happ? Morales can't possible be around much longer, hes objectively terrible. I have to think his leash is Pearce returning at this point. That doesn't give him a lot of time.

doobzacheria Verified Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Yup, pretty sure Happ was in the AA regime. Morales was all Shapiro. And yes, this power, flyball hitter has hit something like over 50% ground balls thus far this season. Both him and Martin have a terrible BABIP, but Martin at least gets hard contact that seems to find every outfielder. Kendrys duffs it in the dirt far more. I take that to mean that Russ will get out of his funk far sooner than Tubs. I mean, come on, Happ has as many hits as Morales in what, the last 20 games??? I think they give him till either June or July 1st, depending on how they go with the kids in AA. Probably July, as I feel they want to move Vladdy, Bo, etc, up to AAA before The Show. Of course, I know nothing, so I am likely wrong in my assessment.

Give Morales his walking papers now, bring up Guaverra to play 3rd and make Donaldson DH Jays have to start winning now before it's too late Fans are already staying away so they are losing more than what they are paying Morales Also bring Bo Bicchette to Buffalo to be ready to fill in at short stop should it be needed These 2 additions to the team will excite the fans and bring them out to the games making it financially a good move. It will be like having a Trout and a Judge on one team.

saskjayfan Old-Timey Member Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 What the f*** is a Guaverra? I think it's a tropical fruit. Seriously though, if Morales' .OPS drops below Vlad's batting average can we bring him up. I mean bring up Biggio and give him a look. He's 23. Anyone other than Morales would be preferable right now. Admit your mistake and move on. There have been plenty of good moves to offset this disaster.

He's a clear upgrade at this point.

BTS Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 I am surprised at you, don't you want Vlad to become a better third baseman? I don't think he's going to become an everyday 3B, and I don't think his odds of becoming one are improved by him being left in the minors.
BTS Community Moderator Posted May 18, 2018 Posted May 18, 2018 Like, why is everyone so worried about fitting the fat kid in at 3B? He's going to mash. The bat plays anywhere. If he can do it as a decent 1B, let him do that instead of spending 3 years failing at 3B. We live in a world where you can go get a Moustakas or Frazier on cheap 1-year deals.

Because he’d be more valuable if he can play 3B while he’s still young. If he’s called up now he’s a DH only this season. If the front office thought he couldn’t stick at 3B they’d want to start playing him at 1B in the minors first surely?
