Boxcar Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I think we should start a class action lawsuit against SN for subjecting us to Pat Tabler's utter stupidity.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 Thank f***ing Christ there’s no JPA on my TV Yeah he's definitely teasing something. Maybe he'll occasionally be one of the guest commentators that is mentioned in the article? In the Radio Booth– Ben Wagner makes his Major League debut, joined by veteran announcer Mike Wilner and with regular contributions from Dan Shulman. A rotating team of analysts will be joining Wagner throughout the season.

The Wagner guy they are all like "A distinctive style who will be part of the next generation". And Wagner hasn't even broadcast a game yet. But Wilner... nothing. Poor Wilner. They should of least given a quick BIO. "Mike Wilner has been part of the team for almost two decades. In his younger days he was a fiesty guy with an attitude, he once challenged former Manager Cito Gaston in a press conference. We suspended him for two days, and had to cut his balls off. Yes we literally cut his balls off. After that he still had a bit of an attitude, but it was mostly directed to the fans."
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Rumor is that V Dub could be spending time in Zauns old chair as one of the rotating analysts.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I think we should start a class action lawsuit against SN for subjecting us to Pat Tabler's utter stupidity. I honestly wonder if he's stipulated in Buck's contract. It's unfathomable that he is still employed.
Jonn Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I like Ben Wagner in the booth. He has done well so far. I still think JPA will do more TV than radio.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I honestly wonder if he's stipulated in Buck's contract. It's unfathomable that he is still employed. Agreed. I love Buck as a color guy, but with Tabby there it is just not possible. Was Tabler there before Buck?
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Rumor is that V Dub could be spending time in Zauns old chair as one of the rotating analysts. Man I love VDub, that would be awesome. He's such a likeable guy.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Agreed. I love Buck as a color guy, but with Tabby there it is just not possible. Was Tabler there before Buck? The other day I saw/someone linked a video to Carlos Delgado's 4 HR game and Pat Tabler was there! So yeah he's apparently been around forever, much longer than Buck as far as I can remember.
Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Remember when everyone said that Tony Romo sucked balls as a QB, sucks balls in life and will suck balls in the broadcast booth...and now he's the most beloved color guy of all time? Yeah...maybe that's JPA.
mphenhef Verified Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Tabby replaced Buck as colour commentator back in 2001 and has been there ever since. Buck's original run was from 1987–2000 though.
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Author Posted March 27, 2018 I remember when he and Campbell called the games. Yikes.

Yeah...maybe that's JPA. I honestly don't think he would be that bad. I still think people here just remember him to much of the player that was oblivious to how limited his skill set was. And the fact that he didn't feel he needed to walk or get on base and would fight with fans on twitter about it.
Dr. Dinger Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I remember when he and Campbell called the games. Yikes. We don't talk about that era.
BTS Community Moderator Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 I remember when he and Campbell called the games. Yikes. Still not as bad as Rob Faulds.

Virgil_Hiltz Verified Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Ha...I remember Don Chevier, Early Wynn and Tony Kubek! Also Jackie Robinson did one or two early Expos games.

And the fact that he didn't feel he needed to walk or get on base and would fight with fans on twitter about it. He started off okay in 2011 and 2012 but he never improved at all. Then as pitch framing became a thing it revealed a really ugly aspect (in additions to the others) to his game.
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted March 27, 2018 Posted March 27, 2018 Still not as bad as Rob Faulds. Wasn't it Rod Black on TSN that called games back in the days.... I was not a big fan of him. I liked Fletcher when he did it on occasion his personality was f***ing weird..... Maybe thats why i liked it lol

Yeah...maybe that's JPA. Romo was a above average QB he just was always hurt. I mean when he starts he is 78-49 which is very very good. And his life seems pretty good Married lots of money so i don't think you really know what your talking about son.

No. Buck goes back to the 80s. Broke his leg in 85 and became an announcer soon after. Buck has been around literally as long as some of us semi-older guys (40ish guys who began following as kids in the 80s) have... Kind of weird, with the retirement of Howarth, Buck is like the last announcer connection to the "glory days" Buck had to take a little break, and become Orioles announcer from 2003-2009, on account of him hating the J.P. Riccardi regime, for firing him as manager. As soon as "the Beast" fired Riccardi, Buck was back.
ValiantJaysFan Verified Member Posted March 28, 2018 Posted March 28, 2018 I think we should start a class action lawsuit against SN for subjecting us to Pat Tabler's utter stupidity. I had my wife all willing to watch the Montreal games, flipped the TV on, the first thing she said was "hell no, I can't listen to Buck and Tabby all night".

I liked Fletcher when he did it on occasion his personality was f***ing weird..... Maybe thats why i liked it lol Fletcher was great lol. "Here comes the hammmmer, here comes the hammmmer" and Doc strikes a guy out with a curve right on cue. What made it annoying was Jamie Campbell trying to shut him up all game. I dunno who did commentary back in the early 90s on Labbatt Blue Jays Baseball on TSN but whoever it was, I don't remember him sucking like Buck and Tabler. Buck is just a weird, drunk uncle who corners you at family functions and does a weird breathy beer laugh. Tabler just has straight up run out of things to say so he fills the silence with nonsense, and if you watch him over a 3 or 4 game series, he says the same s*** every single game. I really don't know of a better option though. I mean as much as we complain about Buck and Tabby, after listening to Harold Reynolds in the playoffs, I can at least tolerate them some of the time.

The reanimated corpse of Helen Keller would be better than Tabler
