SaskJaysFan_2 Verified Member Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Just checking out some ST clips of Travis playing a little defense, he looks really good. He's running and moving like he's a young kid and not a chronic leg injury. Hopefully his shoulder and knees hold up. If he plays a good ~ 150 games, what will his WAR be do you think?

Probably about 3 WAR as a realistic guess. I don't think he'll get 150 games though, as the team has indicated they're gonna give him plenty of rest to try and keep him healthy. I would guess even fully healthy, he's looking at 120 games.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Travis can't play everyday. Maybe try to get him on the field 4 days a week with Solarte playing the other days. The goal should be to keep him healthy and maximize the time he actually spends on the field. Same with Tulo.
jays_fever Old-Timey Member Posted February 21, 2018 Posted February 21, 2018 Not having Travis play in back to back days for the whole year could go a long way as well to protect his health. With off days, he'd still probably get in around 100 games and 400 ABS? Solarte is more than good enough to help fill in. They seem to do this in basketball a lot with injury prone players.

And what if hes gets red hot and is our best hitter for a good 3 week stretch like he was last year? How do you take him out the lineup.

He has had a birth defect that was wrongly diagnosed and a knee injury that was incorrectly treated. If he is 100% healthy and is doing fine he would be on the field for 145 games min imo

Dick_Pole Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Good. I'm honestly excited for the Diaz era to begin. What happens when Tulo is ready to come back and Diaz is destroying baseballs? Oh, I guess Travis will probably be injured so maybe a moot point. If both players are healthy and Diaz, Tulo and Travis are all desirable bats in the line up I'd assume Travis to left field or Tulo to DH would be considerations. If we are blessed to see that this year, the Jays would have an awesome bench.
The Iceman Verified Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Tulo not being able to play is shocking to me. Who ever thought that his ankle injury would linger this long...BRUTAL
Mikeleelop Verified Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Tulo not being able to play is shocking to me. Who ever thought that his ankle injury would linger this long...BRUTAL i'm over reacting, but i feel that Tulo doesn't mind being on IR. He has bone spurs for six months and doesn't get it treated during the off season???? Being a professional athlete means you take your physical condition seriously and are ready when the season starts. of course i don't have information to make this evaluation, but it feels like he is playing out the string his bat severely declined last year. exit velocity was pathetic - no way you consider dh'ing him i know this is reactionary and emotional post but show you care please
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 zero reason you can't have Devon Travis face primarily LHP and Solarte facing RHP. That keeps his playing time down and i think plays more to a strength. Solarte has better numbers against RHP than LHP. I think it is a win win

That's basically a 75:25 split for Solarte in that scenario. I'm all for keeping Travis healthy and using the platoon advantage, but that's too much. FWIW, Travis has no career splits (112 wRC+, .339 wOBA vs both). Unregressed and SSS especially for LHP (200 PA). Solarte has more PA, but is basically the same for his career against RHP as Travis. (111 wRC+, .332 wOBA) and worse against LHP (92 wRC+, .303 wOBA)
Sammy225 Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Yeah, that kid is obese. You tell me that kid is not tagged as a first baseman unless he does something drastic
Pendleton Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Who is that beside Vlad? Slight difference in build.
Krylian Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Trade Vladdy while you can.
glory Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 From behind, Vlad looks like a lunch lady.
Orgfiller Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Super duper high performance training staff should take some interest in our best prospect soon hopefully. He will probably still rake but it's kind of pathetic that he can't get that weight off. There's only so much the team can do about it. They can tell him everything that he needs to eat and the proper exercises but if he's unwilling to do them or he eats junk food on the side there's nothing they can do about that.
Daniel Labude Jays Centre Contributor Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Yeah, that kid is obese. Don't mess with what is working. But yeah he probably needs to focus on losing 15 lbs
Terminator Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Vladito ain't looking so little.
Angrioter Old-Timey Member Posted February 22, 2018 Posted February 22, 2018 Yeah, that kid is obese. He's just 18/19..... Wait 2 more years. Trade him now that he is top 3
